'Lugar pequeno' is a stone house located in a place of privilege in the small galician hamlet of Golmar, at the head of an untouched valley some 200m above sea level. The house, with all comforts, is the second home of its owners. It fusions tradition, family heirlooms and a touch of modern style. From all rooms and garden, it enjoys a clean, extensive and impressive view over a green valley, forest, cliffs, sea and some 80Km of virgin Atlantic coast. The hamlet is located within a EU natural area of Community Interest due to its ecosystem. You will enjoy complete tranquility, being only at 4 Km distance to the fishing village of Cedeira, with shops, all facilities, a nice beach and seaport, and very good tapas and restaurants. You will enjoy some of the best sandy virgin beaches in Spain or hiking from the house through tracks to the cliffs or the lighthouse. Away from the mass tourism of other regions, the house is located in the area of Rias Altas and Costa Artabra, an undiscovered coastal zone of unique natural beauty. Within minutes from wonderful sandy beaches, estuaries, lagoons and impressive cliffs. The hamlet of Golmar is located in a natural area included in 'Natura 2000', the European Union's network of sites of interest due to their ecosystems and biodiversity. It is possible to see occasionally wild horses, foxes, wild boar or roe deer. From the house, you can take wonderful walks to the valley, forest and cliffs, the lighthouse or the small church of S. Antón. From the hamlet, you can take the footpath to the pilgrimage place of S. Andrés de Teixido, which leads to an area with the highest cliffs in the European continent (more than 620m. above the sea level) and impressive cape Ortegal, of geological interest. The fishing village of Cedeira, at 4,5 Km, has a nice beach and seaport, and very good tapas and restaurants

Notes: The house, with all comforts, fusions tradition, family heirlooms and a touch of modern style. All rooms enjoy incredible clean coast views to the forest, valley and ocean away from it all. The big living room (with fireplace) open out onto the sea, the dining room, kitchen and a TV room, are separate areas built in three levels open to the wooden stairs. 4 bedrooms and 3 WC are perfect for 8 people, The stereo has an i-pod dock and a a number of movies (DVDs) are available. The open terrace is a perfect place for al-fresco dining, enjoying the superb and extensive coastal view.

Beach and activities: You will enjoy of white sandy, clean and unspoiled beaches. You can choose among beaches with extensive dunes and wonderful views (Vilarube), calm water (A Magdalena) or high waves (Pantin, Baleo) , birdwatching (Frouxeira), etc. Sonreiro is the beach closer to the house, in a small cove close to the castle of 'La Concepción'. In September, “Pantin classic” is one of the qualifying series in the world surfing championship. Hiking, surfing, horse riding, kayak or boat tours are some of the activities to do in the area.

Excursions : In addition to the nice place of the house and its surroundings, other interesting spots to visit (within less than one-hour drive) are Ortigueira, Estaca de Bares Cape, O Barqueiro and Viveiro, going east, or the Natural Park Fragas do Eume and the village of Pontedeume, going west. The towns of A Coruña or Santiago de Compostela, are also excellent options for a day excursion (at 75 and 90 min-drive). Santiago is one of the most beautiful towns in Europe, declared UNESCO world heritage. Inland, the town of Lugo (90 min.) has a complete Roman wall (of some 3 Km) and a charming old part with a XIII century cathedral.

How to get: Cheap flights to the airports of Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) or La Coruna (LCG) are often available from London, Paris, Dublin, Germany, Austria, Switzerland or Portugal, and a number of spanish towns. Low cost airlines as Click-Air, Ryan Air, Air Berlin, Air Lingus, Easyjet or Vueling fly to these airports, in adition to other airlines (Iberia, Spanair, TAP, Air Europa, Aerolineas Argentinas, etc.), The 1.15 hour or 1.30 hour drive from La Coruña or Santiago airports is a pleasure in itself.

It is difficult to find such a peaceful and relaxing place as this lovely house. Our family of 8 spent 10 fantastic days exploring Galicia from this hidden valley. The information we received from the owners was extremely helpful. We found in the house detailed instructions and some books, maps and information about activities and excursions. You will definitely need a car to make the most of your holidays, discover first class unspoiled beaches and travel around many interesting places (St. Andres and Cabo Ortegal are a must).

The house is comfortable, really well maintained and it has everything you could need. Most remarkable is its excellent position and its wonderful views to the Atlantic. Different stunning sunsets each evening!.

Supermarkets and (excellent) small restaurants can be found in the town of Cedeira, at 5 min driving distance. Don’t miss “marraxo” (shark) or “percebes” (goose barnacles). A drink after dinner at café Pinzon’s terrace by the river is also a pleasure.

We certainly recommend this property.

Congratulations to the owners! They have matched an outstanding setting with an outstanding house.
Inside, the house is comfortable, spotless,lovely furniture and from its many windows breathtaking views.
Nearby beaches are stunning. Food was a pleasant discovery.
Highly recomended.

Quiet getaway

The description given in the anouncement is rather complete and to he point. So, the view from the house is indeed very stunning, its interior is rather comfortable, tasteful, and fully equipped (including also a clothes washer, and even a selection of DVDs, CDs, and a small spanish / english library).

According to our view, up to four adults might live in the house together with up to three children.

The only and very small negative point with respect to the house concerns cleanliness, that reached only 95 points of 100.

The next city Cedeira is in a 5 minutes driving distance through an eucalyptus forest. The people there (and also in Golmar) are very friendly, the price level in the restaurants is low, the quality, however, high. In one of the cafes, fast access to the internet is possible (at a price of about 50 c / 30 min).

As for the sea and the weather, we were a little bit surprised by the low water temperature (below 20 °C). Nevertheless, swimming is possible. Cloudy and rainy days occur from time to time, a sun protection level higher than 30 is nevertheless recommended.
