In the Vaucluse region of Provence,L'Isle sur la Sorgue is renown for its antique shops and often referred to as 'the Venice of France'. A maze of waterways & winding streets, a melange of galleries & cafes, a historians delight, an artists dream. In the center of town, beside the river, this self-contained house is centuries old, has been tastefully restored and decorated with comfort, tranquility, light & space uppermost in mind, the result is all that...and more. Two bedrooms (twin or queen beds); two shower rooms each with w.c. hand basin & heated towel rails. The first floor is open-plan with full kitchen, dining and living areas. The living room has a large glass door opening onto a narrow balcony overlooking the river and one of the towns famous moss covered water wheels. The top floor terrace has dining table, chairs & BBQ. An additional sitting room on the ground floor. I also have 2 studio/apartments, each for 2 people in the heart of the village for E450/week

L'Isle sur la Sorgue is in the heart of the Vaucluse region of Provence. A village surrounded by waterways, overflowing with antique shops, markets, gourmet restaurants, cafes and galleries. Historic landmarks abound, fields of lavender and grape vines surround. The Luberon valley, with its medieval villages are close at hand and a delight to explore. Golfing, kayaking, hiking and cycling are all part of the local life and experience in and around L'Isle sur la Sorgue. The house is situated in a residential street, one two short blocks from the heart of town and the buzz of daily life. Thursday morning has a lively farmers' market and Sunday mornings is THE market of the week for all from far and wide. If you feel inspired to cook, the fresh produce is fabulous, the house self-contained and extremely well equipped for the budding chef. If you feel like being pampered, we have our own Michelin starred restaurant 'Le Vivier' which is well worth a visit. (my favourite in town).

Notes: Smoking is appreciated on the terrace only where ashtrays are provided. The walk from the house and through the village is flat so not difficult for those who prefer to take it slowly. Inside there are winding stairs between levels, with hand rail on one side and a 'fireman's pole' for the hand rail in the centre.

With or without car....general transport?: Entirely up to you. There is parking in a private garage if you chose to bring or hire a car. Within L'Isle sur la Sorgue itself, there is no need for a car. The village is flat and easily accessible for exploring. There is a railway station in L'Isle sur la Sorgue which can take you to and from Cavaillon, Marseille, Avignon and general surrounds. You'll sometimes have to change trains to venture further afield. If you prefer not to have a car, there are local buses between the Luberon villages, and to Avignon and surrounding towns. Bicycles can be hired in the village and tours, or a private driver, can be organised.

Cooler months in L'Isle sur la Sorgue: For anyone deciding to visit during the cooler months, the house is heated to ward off the chills. Plenty of blankets for the beds are provided. The village is a 'year round' village. Slightly quieter than in the popular summer months, but delightful to explore. The cafes and restaurants abound; the Thursday farmers' market is wonderful and the large Sunday market always popular and colourful.

Sport enthusiasts: Kayaking down the river from Fontaine de Vaucluse is great fun...waters a little icy, but gorgeous. Bicycle hire is here....you can venture off far and wide in the surrounding area where is quite flat....further afield into the Luberon where there are fabulous hill top villages to visit and some great cycle trails to follow. The Provence Country Club is about 2kms away and the golf course, I'm told, is excellent. As is their restaurant. Clubs can be hired there. Several horse riding organisations can be found in the area. Hiking trails are superb, well marked and a delight to travel.

Ski: Not a days outing but if you're here for a week or three...then certainly you can do a few overnights at the northern ski fields, about 2 1/2 hours drive from here.

Golf: The Provencal Country Club is 2km away near Saumane. There is also an excellent golf course near Avignon and further afield, The Pont Royale golf course near Aix-en-Provence comes highly recommended.

This was our first time in France and we couldn't have chosen a nicer town or accomodation. The house was very clean and maintained to a high standard. The owner has thought of everything for a self catering holiday, the kitchen was better equipped than my own at home!! As we didn't hire a car, the house was very well placed for walking to shops, restaurants and places of interest. Everything in the advert is true. I would certainly recommend this property to my friends and would definately go back myself. I would however choose a different time of year as the weather was very hot, which we did not expect!.
