Lasserre is a 200 year old farmhouse, carefully restored to provide authentic but also modern accommodation. One of most memorable and remarked on features is simply its position. Sitting on 30 acres of its own hill, in an acre of lawned garden, it has to one side uninterrupted views extending for many miles over the surrounding hills and valleys, and to the other the Pyrenees. Whether sitting on the terrace or lying by the pool, the combination of views and silence, and the feeling of space, is utterly relaxing.

Despite its splendid isolation there are many local attractions within easy reach. The house is located near to the well known 'Route de Bastides et Castleneau' which includes some beautiful medieval villages. Their are local villages a short drive in all directions, including the pretty town of Marciac, world known for its annual August Jazz festival. There are a number of easily accessible swimming pools, beach lakes, golf courses, and tennis courts as well as activities such as walking and cycling, horse riding, white water rafting, tree top walking and many others. Every day of the week is a market day somewhere nearby, and the cities of Auch, Pau, Tarbes,Toulouse and Bordeaux (now a world heritage site) offer further sightseeing or shopping options.The mountains and ski resorts of the Pyrenees are just over an hour away, & Spain is an achievable day trip.

  • The lounge has a large open fireplace with wood burning stove and 3 sofas. There is a TV with DVD player & satellite reception (as well as another TV & DVD player in the largest bedroom). The kitchen was designed for the house & is equipped with high quality cook ware. All bedrooms are large. All of the 4 bedrooms on the first floor enjoy extensive views. Outside, adjoining terraces on 2 sides of the house overlook the pool and surrounding countryside,with fantastic views & all day sun. A separate terrace above an outbuilding gives views towards the Pyrenees & offers an area of tranquillity, if needed, from the main terrace & pool area. As well as the 10m * 5m salt pool there is a boule court, badminton area, table tennis table & a challenging swing over the valley!

This fabulous house which has been beautifully renovated to a really high standard provided the base for a second fantastic holiday. We really enjoyed relaxing by the pool and enjoying the amazing views. The kids were entertained with table tennis, badminton, boules and a fantastic rope swing. We enjoyed lots of day trips including white water rafting, walking in the mountains, wine tasting, watching the Tour de France and we visited the Chateau in Pau. There is a lovely lake nearby with beach. At night we enjoyed the restaurants in nearby villages, and the Jazz festival in Marciac was a highlight!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Gascon Tranquility

Leave perfectly petit Pau airport & drive into the rolling hills of Gascony to this elegantly restored rural farmhouse.In one direction it looks over a valley containing a Templar church whilst the Pyrennes loom from the other side.
Peace & tranquility abound.
Inside, there are all the modern conveniences, along with enough space for our two families to stretch out & relax.
The swimming pool is wonderful for the hot days, or balmy evenings after the kids have gone to bed.
Local villages & towns supply all your needs, whilst the Marciac Jazz Festival provides an international musical experience.
The coast at Biarritz is accessible, but after a few days of winding down here, the local market seems as far as one would want to travel!
Recommended for:  Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers

Lovely house fantastic views. Area very rural with abundant wildlife and good walks. The house was very spacious well equipped clean well laid out and we felt very at home.
One restaurant at Bassous was just about within walking distance but the walk there and back with a lovely lunch took us all day. A car or bike is therefore essential for everything. However all the local towns and villages are ancient and delightful. For such a sparsly populated area we were suprised at the number of English folk about.
The local wine Madiran was very enjoyable.
We plan to go back and would recommend it to anyone who wants the rural french experience.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway
