Photos and Description of this Skibbereen holiday house
Self-catering for six, fabulous views suitable all year rental pets welcome.

With the help of local architect Donal Hoare, Seagull Cottage was created from the milking parlour and potato store of JP Collins` old farm. Standing inside the delightfully light and airy living space forming the present dining, living and kitchen areas or exploring the bedroom wing with three large bedrooms and two bathrooms and a well equipped utility room it is hard to imagine these origins. Little except the angled and slightly curving walls and fabulous views give them away. Irrespective of the weather, inside the house has a quiet, calm, warm feeling thanks to the efficient and eco-friendly construction. We used more insulation than regulations required, the most efficient double glazing we could get for the windows and doors and a geo-thermal under-floor heating system that also heats hot water. The result is an unusual living experience in an efficient clean modern house that has sympathy, warmth and charm in one of the most beautiful locations in West Cork.

Unspoiled location.

Review Submitted: March 24, 2011 Date of Stay: March 2011
We spent a week at the house in March expecting rain but had mostly sunshine. A bit chilly but the house's peat stove kept it cozy. The house fronts on a beautiful unspoiled cove; the locals were successful to fighting off a development project that would have added 20 houses. As a result, the views are spectacular. Sunrise comes over a stony beach at the bottom of the hill, reached by a grassy path; at low tide one can access a broad sandy beach beyond. A short walk in the opposite direction leads to a magnificent bay and small sandy beach where we watched the sunset. A 3km drive west will take you to Toe Head, which has views in all directions. The locals are very friendly and told us we could walk on the pasture land to get better views of the cliffs and the large island where legend says the locals buried their dead a thousand years ago. We were planning to do more sightseeing by car but ended up walking nearby and enjoying the cottage. The Beara peninsula which rivals the Ring of Kerry is doable in one day from the house. Skibbereen has good shopping. In season I am sure the seaside villages of Castletownshend and Baltimore are quite crowded but in March it was blustery but peaceful.

I highly recommend spending time here.

Rest and Relaxation

Review Submitted: October 6, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2010
This is truly as you would want it to be. The house is wonderful, comfortable and has all of the accomodations a traveler can ask for. Everything about it is relaxing and restful. It was a spacious home, a beautiful garden and the greatest of locations. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a true get away. Securing the reservation for the time there was also easy to put in place. Everything about Sea Gull Cottage was perfect!

Beautiful family friendly house in West Cork

Review Submitted: June 12, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We rented Seagull cottage for a week in May 2009, we were very lucky that in addition to this wonderful house we also got a week of hot sunny weather. It's the best holiday house that we have ever rented. The house itself is beautifully designed, clean, modern and stays a nice constant temperature thanks to the geothermal heating system. Everything about Seagull cottage was simply lovely. Comfy beds, white sheets, beautiful bathrooms, tastful kitchen (great dishwasher), even a combustion fireplace should it get chilly. The kids slept so well, and as it's practically all on one level it's so easy to live in. The views are gorgeous, and it has 2 patios so when the sun is out there is always a sunny place to sit. There is a wonderful small beach called Sandycove 5 mins walk from the house - a perfect beach for children. Castletownshend has the famous Mary Annes pub for great seafood and Skibereen is only 10 mins away for supplies. You can buy fresh lobsters in Union Hall only 15 mins away and enjoy your feast with a glass of wine on the patio and take in the views. This was the perfect holiday. There was space for the children to run about, it was safe and we had everything we needed nearby but plenty of privacy. Mrs Cleary is very kind and made us feel very welcome and she only lives up the road so she's around if you need anything. It was a pleasure to stay in Seagull Cottage. We have booked it again for next year. Thanks for a great holiday.

Awesome views

Review Submitted: November 16, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We could not believe the stunning view as we approached this property, the sea, which can also be seen from the cottage, was like a picture postcard and just a stones throw away from the front door!
The cottage was in perfect condition, everything seemed brand new. It had all the facilities we needed and was mega spacious. There is a small hidden away beech just aboat 50 yards down a lane which has awesome views of small Islands which give the horizon perspective. We caught Mackerel by the bucket loads and had plenty of garden for a nice BBQ. Its hard to think of anything to fault except the sea temperature is not for the faint hearted. Will be back for sure.
