Photos and Description of this County Cork holiday house Self-catering for six, fabulous views suitable all year rental pets welcome.

With the help of local architect Donal Hoare, Seagull Cottage was created from the milking parlour and potato store of JP Collins` old farm. Standing inside the delightfully light and airy living space forming the present dining, living and kitchen areas or exploring the bedroom wing with three large bedrooms and two bathrooms and a well equipped utility room it is hard to imagine these origins. Little except the angled and slightly curving walls and fabulous views give them away. Irrespective of the weather, inside the house has a quiet, calm, warm feeling thanks to the efficient and eco-friendly construction. We used more insulation than regulations required, the most efficient double glazing we could get for the windows and doors and a geo-thermal under-floor heating system that also heats hot water. The result is an unusual living experience in an efficient clean modern house that has sympathy, warmth and charm in one of the most beautiful locations in West Cork.

It is an unspoilt coast with safe beaches, surrounded by green fields and dairy cattle, making it an ideal place for children, or just to relax and get away from it all. The environment is one of the cleanest in Europe making it a paradise for photographers and artists or anyone who wishes for a holiday breathing clean air. The cottage is only three minutes walk from two beaches, two kilometers from Castletownshend, 6 kilometers from the market town of Skibbereen and 80 kilometers from Cork and its International Airport. The location is surrounded by tourist interest, starting with Traharta Beach and Bay. Baltimore has golf, sailing and access to Cape Clear and Sherkin Islands On route to Mizen Head are Mt Gabriel, and Schull. Bantry is within easy reach by car as is the Bera peninsular, Glengarriff, Garnish Island Kenmare and the Ring of Kerry.

Beautiful family friendly house in West Cork

Review Submitted: June 12, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We rented Seagull cottage for a week in May 2009, we were very lucky that in addition to this wonderful house we also got a week of hot sunny weather. It's the best holiday house that we have ever rented. The house itself is beautifully designed, clean, modern and stays a nice constant temperature thanks to the geothermal heating system. Everything about Seagull cottage was simply lovely. Comfy beds, white sheets, beautiful bathrooms, tastful kitchen (great dishwasher), even a combustion fireplace should it get chilly. The kids slept so well, and as it's practically all on one level it's so easy to live in. The views are gorgeous, and it has 2 patios so when the sun is out there is always a sunny place to sit. There is a wonderful small beach called Sandycove 5 mins walk from the house - a perfect beach for children. Castletownshend has the famous Mary Annes pub for great seafood and Skibereen is only 10 mins away for supplies. You can buy fresh lobsters in Union Hall only 15 mins away and enjoy your feast with a glass of wine on the patio and take in the views. This was the perfect holiday. There was space for the children to run about, it was safe and we had everything we needed nearby but plenty of privacy. Mrs Cleary is very kind and made us feel very welcome and she only lives up the road so she's around if you need anything. It was a pleasure to stay in Seagull Cottage. We have booked it again for next year. Thanks for a great holiday.

Awesome views

We could not believe the stunning view as we approached this property, the sea, which can also be seen from the cottage, was like a picture postcard and just a stones throw away from the front door!
The cottage was in perfect condition, everything seemed brand new. It had all the facilities we needed and was mega spacious. There is a small hidden away beech just aboat 50 yards down a lane which has awesome views of small Islands which give the horizon perspective. We caught Mackerel by the bucket loads and had plenty of garden for a nice BBQ. Its hard to think of anything to fault except the sea temperature is not for the faint hearted. Will be back for sure.

my kind of holiday

Review Submitted: September 30, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We had a really excellent time with the kids, swimming in the nearby cove, pebble throwing competitions at an even nearer, beach and taking in the chilled out existence in this fabulously equipped cottage, modcons and all overlooking a sensational bay in a truly beautiful part of Ireland. On rainy days, we stayed in played games and cards. The house is so light, with lots of windows and a really airy feel so staying indoors was no big deal.
I can't but write this feedback though I am hoping we wont be pipped at the post when it comes to rebook! Thanks.
