The sunniest and hottest seaside village?:
Paúl do Mar is one of the sunniest and hottest seaside villages in Madeira. Until the late 1960s you could only access this fishing village by boat. Popular activities in and around the village are: mountain walks. fishing, swimming, snorkelling and surfing. Also, the village is quite flat for Madeira, which is generally hilly and mountainous so it’s easy to walk around, roller-skate and cycle especially along the seafront. In the Spring and Summer there are many ‘festas’ (festivals) and the streets are alive with different languages as the locals who work abroad return home for a well-earnt holiday with family and friends! The village has a small supermarket, a couple of shops, a Catholic Church, a bank with a cash machine, medical centre, bars/cafes and restaurants. It is one of the most important fishing centres in the island with a new harbour Swimming is easy from certain points including a slipway near 'Sunny House' with steps and a ladder and beaches next to the harbour.
