Stone built cottage sleeps 7 -9 in a secluded valley, alongside the river Noireau, with views over a rocky cliff on one side, wooded hills on the other and the riverside garden which runs for 1/5th mile. There are extensive grounds to walk and play in. Ideal for families wanting to kick back and relax or walkers & painters. 1km from local village with bar, general store/post office,boulangerie, charcuterie. 8km to the town of Flers. There are 4 bedrooms-a double with en-suite shower room on the ground floor, and 3 bedrooms upstairs (a double, bunk bed room and a single bedroom) and bathroom with huge corner bath. Plus double sofa bed on mezzanine sitting area with TV for DVDs. There is a large open plan living room, kitchen diner with large fireplace and fireplace seating for 8. The dining table seats up to 10. Kitchen has fridge/freezer, 5 burner hob/oven, dishwasher,microwave. Lawn with stone-built BBQ eating area, and garden furniture. Basement utility with washing machine.

Les Vaux is a valley which was until the mid 20th century a hive of industry powered by the stone built water mill on the adjacent land. Now a country park, a haven of peace and quiet and home to red squirrels, deer, owls, otters and kingfishers. Falaise with its wealth of William the Conqueror history, Bayeaux with the famous tapestry, the famous wide and golden Normandy landing beaches (and Pegasus Bridge) to the north and the pretty seaside towns along the Cherbourg peninsula, such as Granville are only around an hour's drive away. Mt St Micheal, St Marlo, the stylish Deauville and Honflur, Monet's garden at Giverny and the national stud at Haras du Pins are all suggestions for day trips. The delights of Suisse Normandy and Calvados are very near at hand with fine food, cider, watersports, bungee and biking to name but five! In the garden you can kick back and potter or read a book with your feet dangling in the river-seclusion, but well placed for action when needed.

  • There is an open mezzanine area with a futon which would be ideal for teenagers as this area also has the TV for DVDs and videos. The small single bedroom could accommodate a roll away or could be set up as a nursery-we have a good travel cot, changing table and other baby facilities. The two double bed rooms are large and could accommodate children on put me ups. Please let us know about your particular requirements and we will do our best to accommodate. All bedding is supplied.

Notes: Electric radiators and water heating. Fireplaces in main living room and ground floor bedroom. Elderly/disabled welcome and could use ground floor bedroom with en-suite but the front door is accessed via 10 steps. All bed linen, bath mats, towels and tea towels provided. Wood available for the fires. Stove has 5 gas burners. Outside the extensive gardens include two areas of level lawn for games and relaxing and various walks along the river including an island between the main river and the remains of the mill race which looks like a long pond. There is an area of hard standing ideal for any number of cars and which is also a great area for kids' kick around.There are quiet walks down to the old village (where there is a farm) and over the fields and up onto St Pierre's rock above the house (a great picnic spot) or into the woods.

The cottage at Les Vaux has been beautifully renovated and provided us with a 'home from home'. The accommodation far exceeded our expectaions and the quiet location gave us a truly relaxing holiday. It was everything that the owners had promised and more!

If you are looking to get away from it all, then this is perfect.
