This self-catering apartment is located in the sunny suburb of Garajau, close to Funchal - the capital of Madeira. The apartment has everything a couple would need for a relaxing holiday in Madeira. A very spacious flat with a sunny balcony and a large swimming pool, it is hardly necessary to leave the flat but if you wish to explore you will find everything close by. Within a couple of hundred yards of the apartment you can have a meal or a drink in one of several restaurants and cafés, buy your fresh warm morning bread, organic vegetables and fruit, international newspaper, rent a car, catch a bus or taxi, book your excursions, or enjoy the evening entertainment at the hotel over the road. Within fifteen minutes' journey by bus, car or taxi, you can be enjoying a round of golf on one of two top-quality courses, walking a levada, going on a whale-watching excursion, riding on the cable car up to Monte, visiting the beautiful botanical gardens and experiencing the charm of Funchal.

Levadas: The network of levadas is only a bus ride or taxi journey away. Levadas are water courses running round the mountains and were built by the first settlers to carry water to inaccessible farmland. Today they are one of Madeira’s greatest tourist attractions. Madeira has a fantastic network of trails and levadas. There are more than 200 levadas crisscrossing the island’s basalt rock masses, taking hikers into a rare natural world. Along these irrigation channels you will come across species of fauna and flora found hardly anywhere else in the world, in Madeira’s traditional Laurissilva Forest, which has been declared a World Natural Heritage Site.

Eating Out & Entertainment: Garajau has a good number of restaurants in the main road of the village, as well as several options within a short drive, to suit all budgets and tastes. Guests in the apartment are free to wander over the road to the hotel of an evening and have a meal or a drink and enjoy the nightly entertainment. If you plan to hire a car, there are some fantastic restaurants out of town in the countryside that warrant a visit for some traditional fare - Ask for our recommendations when you check in!

Golf Information: Madeira's two beautiful international level golf courses are both less than half an hour's drive from the apartment and are well worth exploring. Palheiro Golf: On this 18-hole course, set out over 6086 metres, there is a breathtaking view over the bay of Funchal, and a natural setting which includes a garden with over twenty endemic species of Madeira (including the Laurel) classified by UNESCO as World Natural Heritage. Santo da Serra: The sea and mountain views from the course of Santo da Serra Golf Club make it one of the most spectacular in Europe. The 9003 metres of the 27-hole course make up the ideal green for beginners and professionals alike, which explains why Santo da Serra Golf has played host to the Madeira Open.

We had a week in March in this lovely apartment. We were met at the apartment by Robin who told us all we needed to know about the apartment and immediate area. The accommodation had everything we could wish for with comfortable and well fitted bedroom and lounge and the kitchen had everything we could possibly need. Garajau has a small shopping area with a handful of bars and restaurants, plus one very large hotel. It is on the bus route to Funchal (about 15 minutes) which is very reasonably priced. Recommend for people looking for a quiet break.

The restaurants and bars are also handy to have so close to the apartment (but far enough away to avoid the potential noise or smells...) In terms of the hotel, one big benefit that it brings is that it is a good source to you of holiday information, tour booking, car rental etc., as well as having live music in the evenings, which you would be free to attend and enjoy. We had an amazing week exploring beautiful Madeira. The ocean view apartment had everything we we could wish for. It was very peacful, very well-maintained with all the facilities we needed.. and more. We'd recommend this property for couples looking for a romantic getaway or couple like ourselves that love sightseeing as Garajau is very close to all major tourist attractions (Funchal, Monte, Botanical gardens, Pico Ruivo, etc..)
We are definitely coming back!

Superb central apartment with everything at hand

What a lovely holiday we have just had in Madeira. The apartment is light, bright and airy and is well appointed to make our stay very comfortable. The location is very good with excellent access to buses, taxis and hire cars, and the main street of Garajau has everything we needed, from an organic vegetable shop to a pharmacy, not to mention a host of nice restaurants (Indian opening in February). We shall definitely be back!

Indeed, the Indian restaurant, The Blue elephant has opened its doors and is also well worth a visit, in addition to the other restaurants strolling distance from the apartment.
