Self catering, 2 bedrooms( sleeps 4), bathroom with walk in shower, fitted kitchen, dining room and lounge. Sunny terraces and garden with a petanque court and BBQ and 7x7sqm swimming pool, also available on site, Aromatherapy, Reflexology, Holistic facials etc. Pilar de Jaravia is a small Spanish village (1 bar and 1 food shop) nestled beneath the Sierra Aguilon hills, but only 10 min drive from some of the most beautiful, safe and unspoilt beaches in Spain (San Juan de los Terreros). Our village has train station with trains running every day of the year to nearby beautiful coastal town Aguilas (the home of one of the largest carnivals (Feb) in Europe) and to Murcia and Alicante. Also within 5 minutes we have 2 new golf courses and 5 within a 30 minute drive. In September on the San Juan beaches the European Youth and under 23's Triathlon Championships are held. We live on site(next door) so can help with any problems or recommendations, a complimentary welcome pack is provided

Our village Pilar de Jaravia is on the border of Almeria and Murcia Provinces it is also the site of one of the biggest crystal deposits (Pulpi Geoda) found in Europe. Nearest towns are Aguilas (Murcia) and Pulpi (Almeria). Aguilas (8kms) has lovely beaches as well as a new shopping centre with bowling, restaurants and shops (C&A, Lefties etc) with a huge weekly market on Saturdays, it also has historical links with British Railway companies. San Juan de los Tererros which is our local beach resort (5kms) has lovely restaurants and chiringuito sand the restored small Castle of San Juan hosting open air concerts in the summer. Aguilon Golf Club(.2km) opened in February 08 in a spectacular setting beneath the mountains overlooking the sea regularly hosting european tournaments. On most maps you will see a black line from Aguilas to Pulpi (denoting railway) where it crosses the border between the 2 provinces is the village of Pilar de Jaravia.

We stayed at the casita for a week in July 2009. It was a lovely house, characterful, well equipped, and comfortable for a family of 4. Our 2 boys (ages 9 and 6) loved the pool, it was safely gated, and not too deep, a good size and perfect for pool volleyball. Pauline and her family were very welcoming, and on hand for information and help. We enjoyed eating al fresco on the patio, handily shaded by a thick grapevine. The pretty garden was a delightful spot for a cold beer for the grownups, and beetle hunting or mud pie making for the boys, the petanque court was a bonus. It's just a few minutes drive into the small town for restaurants and the main beach. We discovered several quieter and very lovely beaches a few minutes drive in either direction - we were almost the only people on the beach on one, to the left of town. Nearby towns of Aguilas and Garrucha are small seaside towns, both have mini fun fairs beside the beach and plenty of restaurants, we had fabulous seafood at Garrucha. Hill top village of Mojacar is well worth a visit with amazing views, and further afield the lovely port town of Cartagena has beautiful architecture and a roman ampitheatre. All in all, we had a great holiday, and would love to return.

A bit of heaven.

We discovered la Casita quite by chance in January 2007. We booked and went there in February 2007. The weather was quite good, La Casita even that early in the year was fantastic. It was cosy and friendly as a building with lots of space and the garden and terrace with the built in barbeque all added to the Spanish rural setting we had been looking for over the years.

The walls of la Casita are about 18 inches thick which may explain how it can be so cosy in February. On the second day the local goat herder passed the end of the garden with dog and 40 or so goats which puts La Casita into it's true setting, and with a bar 100 metres away it only
gets better. We stayed a week and returned in July for a month and were joined by two friends for part of the time.

In the summer it was even better. The weather was hot but most of the time there was a breeze and we ate outside for every meal for that month.

You do need a car to visit the nearby towns and hamlets and to reach the large number of drive on wild beaches but the train station in the village will take you any where in Spain.We went to Murcia to eat and drink in the Tapas Bars and it was a great day out.

In 2008 we went to La Casita for two weeks and this year are going for the whole of August. Our friends are joining us again. In their view it is a bit of heaven and we would have to agree. We certainly hope to return again in future years
