Le Mura

My family and I (three generations of us, seven adults and three kids) have just returned from a marvellous visit to Le Mura. From the moment we drove from the airport through the beautiful valley and up Benabbio's hill, and were greeted by the spectacular view, we knew we were going to love it here.
The farmhouse has real character and is spotless. Every room is a room with a view, so you can even cook with one eye on the mountains. Every night we enjoyed an absolutely beautiful sunset, each one different. Eating outside watching the sun go down, drinking a glass of wine was a real highlight of our stay. The night we had a Tuscan meal, cooked at the house for us by a local chef, was something we'll never forget. The fireflies which joined us made it even more magical.
The kids loved exploring the grounds, playing on the swing and the hammock, chasing the little lizards and butterflies and picking wild flowers along the path towards the village. The pool has a really stunning view straight over to the mountains and was enjoyed by most of us ( I couldn't persuade my 82 year old Dad to take the plunge!)
Benabbio itself is a really attractive village. We found the locals very friendly and visited the excellent pizza restaurant a few times.
As well as enjoying the house and grounds we had trips to Florence and Lucca and, with Celia's help, found a lovely spot on the river bank at the bottom of the hill for the kids to paddle. My brother ventured off three times hiking through the mountains surrounding Benabbio.
My lasting memories of our Tuscan trip to Le Mura will be of good food, good wine, gorgeous surroundings, Italian culture and, last but not least, Celia and Enzo's help, advice and great warmth towards us.
