Notes: The property is well-suited for people who like activitiy holidays, walk, bird-watch, cycle and are lovers of the countryside. We have furnished the property in such a way that it feels homely, relaxing, a 'get away from it all retreat'. It is situated on the edge of a village of approx 400 people, but up a small lane, so from the lounge, you can almost feel on your own. There is a 42' flat screen TV with Freeview in the lounge, with three comfortable settees. We have paid great attention to lighting, so that you can create the atmosphere you prefer. There is a wood burner in the lounge which has very high pine-clad ceilings. There is a small courtyard garden with 4 sun recliners and a table and 6 chairs for dining. We are into candles and these give the cottage a wonderful feel at night. We absolutely love this property and hope that you might too!

Review Submitted: October 12, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
I stayed in The Old Chapel for a week in September -- and all I have to say is, if you're on my side of the Pond (or any side, really) and are wondering whether this cottage is worth a trip all by itself (never mind the wonderful Forest of Dean!), I have a one-word response: "Yes!"

The Old Chapel is beautifully restored and decorated. Every day, I discovered another delight -- the juxtaposition of wood and stone; the lighting (!!), the books, the marbled bathroom, the oh-so-comfy beds, and, my personal favorite: the draperies!

I would sound over-the-top if I could truly express how amazing the owner, Doreen, was during all of my pre-stay queries. I have rented private homes through homeaway.com for nearly two decades now, and I can honestly say that I have NEVER had a more gracious and helpful "host."

The area is terrific (go to Puzzelwood, Symonds Yat and Goodrich Castle) -- I could have spent another week just walking in the Forest right outside the [splendid] front French doors! But bottom line: if you're thinking about whether this cottage would measure up to your expectations, please be assured -- from someone who flew 8 hours just to stay there -- that your expectations will likely be surpassed.

V. well equipped cottage in excellent location

Holidaying with kids Kingston upon Thames
Review Submitted: August 4, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This was a lovely, very well equipped cottage on the edge of the Forest of Dean. The cottage itself had everything you needed and had been thoughtfully planned right down to books, DVDs and games for all ages including children (great for those rainy days!). The location was fantastic. Being on the edge of the Forest meant that all Forest activities (and there are loads) were within aprox 30 mins drive - fantastic with small children.
We had great communication with the owner from the first contact, and the information pack in the cottage was extremely comprehensive - the best we have ever encountered.
All in all we had a wonderful holiday despite the rather rainy British summer!

What a Fantastic Break

Travel_Monkey Worcester
Review Submitted: February 14, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
A perfect break in the forest of dean escaping the hustle and bustle of city life. Perfect setting for 2 or 4 the stone cottage is set right next door to the forest walking paths.

A quick shop at Marks and Sparks in Glous and we were set for the weekend. The fire was a blaze for most of our fantastic stay in this undisturbed tranquil setting. A new kitchen and perfect welcoming touches of chocolates, coffee and heating set us off to a great start.

Romantic marked walks across the forest a stone throw away, locals friendly and inviting. A great guide 'in house' to local food and eateries.

The only downside would be you booking the cottage when we would like to go ! - Recommended without hesitation from a true accommodation snob.

The Old Chapel

Norseman1 Shetland
Review Submitted: February 5, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
My wife and I recently had the good fortune in staying at the Old Chapel, for a weeks break in the Forest of Dean, Prior to going, and when ever we decide to search for a holiday let to rent, we always look for a property with bags of character and in great locations, I have to say, that the Old Chapel certainly met this criteria 100%.
All communications with the owners were first class and any queries were quickly answered, and booking details precise and to the point, nothing was too much trouble for them.
The Chapel itself, is an amazing and stunning property, with all the facilites you would expect, and a lot more besides, and just yards away from the forest. The owners really have thought of everything to ensure your stay is as relaxing as possible, and in my opinion, as well as the Chapel being a character property, it also felt like a home from home, but with a wow factor.
The forest was a delight to take long walks in, and the local sceanery was stunning,
To sum up our stay at the Old Chapel in one word - perfect....
For anyone considering a visit to the Forest of Dean or surrounding counties, and looking for a fantastic place to stay, then I would highly reccomend the Old Chapel.
