Notes: Further details outdoors: Exterior Description (100 m2) Running along a wall just outside of Cortona are a few little doors; unlock this small, green one and go down the stone stairs (the steps are fairly steep; there is a light for night-time entry) into your own little secret garden. Here you'll find a table with wrought-iron chairs underneath a shady tree, as well as a beautifully kept private garden surrounded by ancient stone walls (the garden is now more mature than shown in the photos). You can sit and have a glass of wine in the afternoon as you watch birds and insects enjoy the greenery-- along with the occasional trespassing cat - or barbecue dinner on the grill. A few more steps go down from the garden to the front door of this apartment. Review from Canada: This is a charming, quiet, spotless little casa with a great deal of privacy -- yet is steps from Cortona's stylish shops, piazzas, restaurants and gelato. The landscaped, sunny courtyard is an ideal spot for writing postcards, sipping wine, and listening to rounds of church bells. The house is rich in character, comfort and is very easy to live in. The bed is excellent. We felt like temporary locals and loved walking out the courtyard gate, strolling down the street and popping into our favorite pastry shop for coffee and cornetti. Free parking is very nearby, and a pretty, leafy park popular with residents is across the street. The owners, Alessandro and Marzia, are treasures. Marzia is the delightful artist behind the house's Tuscan colors and furnishings, and Alessandro is the outgoing ambassador who will meet your train, make restaurant recommendations and reservations, and make sure you are enjoying your time in Cortona. My husband and I stayed in this wonderful apartment for three weeks and just loved it. The place was much bigger then we had thought it would be. Even though the kitchen was small it was very adequate, after all you are in Italy. We liked the garden area and would have coffee outside in the morning and wine in the afternoon before we would walk into town to have more wine. Cortona is a jewel in Italy. We will be back.

Really lovely little apartment, beautifully furnished with a private garden a stone's throw from Cortona centre; what more could you ask for?

We had such a relaxing time and our hosts were so helpful - they even gave us advice after we left to go South!

(Thanks Allessandro and Marzia for a wonderful stay and all your help! - Gary did write a review when we came back but I reckon we didn't save it properly! Hope to see you next Summer!)

Convenient and charming apartment in Cortona

Alessandro and Marzia D'Itria have lovingly renovated a delightful apartment just outside the Etruscan walls of Cortona. The apartment was very private since it was surrounded by a wall and had an outside area where one could dine, It could accommodate children since it had a sofa bed in the living room. They are friendly and were very willing to share recommendations and correct any minor problems during our five day stay in July 2009. We do not hesitate to highly recommend " Il Glicine" for a pleasant and carefree stay in Cortona. By the way, Trattoria Toscana is the best value restaurant in Cotrona.

A little palace in Cortona

When I searched the internet for a property in Tuscany I searched for: a spacious property, with a private garden / balcony, and within walking distance of restaurants and terrace. When I found Il Glicine and I read the reviews, I knew I found the right place.

Alessandro (the owner) is a very nice guy who takes a lot of care of the visitors. He emails details and tells you where to park your car (in 50 meters of the house there is free parking along the Via Cesare Batista, and you can unload your luggage just in front of the house).

The house is wonderfull, full of nice furniture and it's very spacious. The garden is big, all day sun, and has some nice chairs for sunbathing. There are also two turtles and a lot of birds.

The house is a 100 meters from the Via Nazionale, the main street of Cortona with numerous shops, restaurants and also terraces. Cortona itself is charming, with small steep streets and very nice views of the surrounding area because it is on a hilltop.

In the surrounding area there is a lot to see, Montepulciano (famous of it's wine and a very nice village to visit), Pienza (we liked this place very much because of the authentic feel), Monticchielo (famous for it's winding road with trees around it, the village itself is little but nice), Arrezo (nice center with very nice square in the middle). Also there is a big lake in the neighbourhood, we didn't go there but we've heard there where beaches down there.

In total this was a perfect holiday in a perfect house, and I would certainly recommend this house to other couples.
