'Maryland House' is a substantial (5,000sq ft) 1930's residence situated on the edge of a small village. Owned and managed by the team behind The Old Neptune (Prop No. 9479) and Pettistree House(no 436176), it has been specifically set up for an extended family or groups of families to gather and enjoy each others company. Featuring fabulous contemporary interiors and an acre of family friendly landscaped gardens, Maryland House offers a quiet retreat for stressed out urbanites to re-charge and spend time with loved ones. Herne is on the North Kent Coast just 45 min from the M25 with Whitstable an easy 10 minute drive and Canterbury 15 min away...and Ocado deliver! There is an outdoor pool heated May-September, a children play area, lawn and gated driveway for the little ones to enjoy in safety, with a spectacular vaulted conservatory dining room for the adults to eat, drink and be merry. A games room & SkyHD make it ideal for wet play days and keeping the older kids happy

The upmarket seaside town of Whitstable is a 10 minute drive and offers the perfect opportunity for Sunday morning strolls along the beachfront and the Harbour market. There are beautiful sandy beaches 45 min way at Joss Bay and surrounding beaches. Canterbury is 15 min away with its historic architecture and superb shopping centre.

  • We have kids and appreciate what a nightmare it can be to travel and stay together - you need space to call your own. So the house has been specifically set up with 3-4 distinct bedrooms areas to accommodate 3-4 different family groups, each having main bedroom, separate room for children with access to a bathroom. And the main bedrooms can also take a cot for babies/toddlers leaving room for grandparents and perhaps the au pair.

Visit Canterbury Cathedral, its famous city walls and excellent shopping centre. See the beautiful historic architecture with a punt trip on the river Stour through Canterbury. Go wild at Howletts Safari Park. Lovely sandy beach at Joss Bay. Cycle from Whitstable to Canterbury along the Crab and Winkle Way. Walk a mile through Blean Woods to the pub for lunch. Watch Kent CCC at Canterbury Ground (the one with the tree in it). walk along the sandstone cliffs of Reculver Country Park. Hire a Thames Barge and see the Wind Farm up close. Take the little ones to Farming World - great outdoor play areas. Three indoor play gyms within 5-15 min drive - Hippodrome, Snappies and Jungle Jim's. Further afield - Hythe and Dunwich Railway, The Hop Farm. Leeds Castle

Places to eat: Jo Jo's in Tankerton or William and Brown in Whitstable for the best Tapas ever. Whitstable Oyster Company or the Crab and Winkle for great seafood. Hotel Continental, Zizzi and Prezzo in Whitstable perfect for families. The Sportsman in Seasalter - Michelin Starred The Abode and The Boudoir Bar for a night out in Canterbury.

Wow, what's not to like about this fabulous house?

We had such a fantastic time and were so busy enjoying ourselves we forgot to write a Thank You in the Guest Book.

The house is immaculate and the swimming pool was a big plus.with stunning views across the woods. In a central location for visiting nearby towns.
There was a shop in the village just a 5 minute walk away that provided us with fresh rolls and newspapers every day.

Lots to do nearby, we visited Herne Bay and its shops, also Canterbury, where I recommend the punt boat trip down The River Stour, Canterbury Cathedral and we had a great meal in Abodes Restaurant.

Whitstable has a great market and lovely designer shops as well as the renowned Wheelers Restaurant where we enjoyed a fab evening.

The owners were very accomodating and we even had Tesco deliver our food for the weekend.

Would definitely advise families to take full advantage of this fine house, you won't be disappointed.
