Lovely, quiet, and charming

My husband and two daughters (19 & 9) and I were in Woodbridge, UK for two weeks because my husband was sent to the area on a business trip. The host company booked us at the Ufford Best Western, which is a nice facility, but we wanted more of an authentic, English country town experience. Lavender Cottage turned out to be the perfect base for traveling to other sights, or just for some "down" time.
The approach to the cottage is through a charming alley that is a ivy-covered brick wall on one side, and a profusion of heady-smelling flowers on the other! It was truly magical! The cottage itself has a quiet, sweet flower garden which was perfect for morning coffee.
The cottage was extremely neat and clean. The high-quality bedding, good mattresses, and large, thick bath towels were fabulous. The owner was attentive, gracious, she gave us some great tips, and keeps her property well-maintained. The only negative- if it can be called that when one is excited to get away from our high-tech world- is that the cottage had no internet access and the TV has 4 channels. (For a 19-year-old, having NO cell phone, no internet, and no TV for 2 weeks is called "punishment" :)
Woodbridge itself is a simply charming market town. Places to eat: The Cherry Tree Inn (family atmosphere pub with excellent food), Wild Strawberry Cafe (very close to Lavender Cottage), King's Head, and a few places toward the end of Thoroughfare Street on the left. Cherry Tree and Wild Strawberry have wi-fi, which is hard to find in town.
Close sights not to be missed are Sutton Hoo, Orford Castle, and Framlingham Castle. We drove to Norwich, Cambridge, Bury St. Edmunds and to a few other places in Suffolk. You can catch the train right in Woodbridge or from Ipswich, which has more departure times to choose from, and go to London for the day! If you want to do that, I strongly suggest you buy your tickets online several weeks in advance because they are MUCH cheaper and train tickets have limited availability during tourist season and are very expensive to purchase on the spot.
I would highly recommend Lavender Cottage; I would LOVE to stay there again!
