Le Somail is a recognised beauty spot on the Canal du midi. It is ideally positioned for access to local towns of Narbonne, Perpignan, Carcasonne and Saint Chinian, and further away, Sete and Montpellier. The area is very rich in archaeology from prehistoric to the present and is steeped in history from pre Roman times through the crusades and Cathars to later religious wars. There are many wine routes to explore through the Corbieres and Minervois. Much of the area can be explored by bicycle along the canal towpath, including the wetland bird reserves south of Narbonne. Some water sports, particularly kayaking , are available on the rivers Herault and Orb, and on lakes in the vicinity. The hamlet of Le Somail is well developed for tourism, with 3 restaurants and a bar, and a large supermarket a mile away on the outskirts of neighboring Saint Marcel. Local fruit producers sell their produce from a barn across the road from the house. Many local villages offer additional amenities.
