Photos and Description of this Carcassonne holiday apartment Overlooking the market square, beautifully furnished, perfect for long weekends

This romantic apartment is in the heart of Carcassonne's La Bastide, the old town. Only 10 minutes by bus from the airport and 5 minutes walk from the railway station you could not ask for a more perfect and convenient location in Carcassonne. Not only is the apartment in a quiet, privately owned town house dating from 1713 but it is on the top floor with a wonderful view across the Market Square of Place Carnot, Carcassonne's most famous market and the location for the weekend market and winter fairs. It also has use of a large roof terrace which in the summer gives unrivalled views of La Cite, the medieval castle and for the magnificent and world famous fireworks of 14th July. It is perfect for an alfresco breakfast or sunning yourself during the day or simply relaxing in the evening with a glass of chilled Champagne as the sun sets over the mountains in the distance. The flat has been completely restored in 2008 and now is a delightfully relaxing and romantic place to stay.

Notes: The flat is located on the third floor of an elegant and classic 18th century period building in the centre of Carcassonne Bastide, just by Place Carnot, the main town square. It is a quiet location in a private building. The sitting room / dinning room and kitchen face South East and are very sunny, while the large bedroom is at the back of the apartment and is quiet and cool in the summer and snug and warm in the winter. As the apartment is on the third floor and has access to a roof terrace it is not suited for the elderly or infirm nor those with very small chidren. The sitting room has a large sofa which is also a sofa bed, two arm chairs and a dinning room table with four chairs. The floor is traditional terracota tiles with carpets. There is flat screen TV and DVD player and a small library of DVDs and English books. The large roof terrace is accessable by an outside staircase. It has commanding views over Carcassonne and the Castle and towards the Pyrrenean Mounta

Further details for this holiday apartment rental in Carcassonne, France

Carcassonne Cite: Carcassonne is has one of the most beautiful fairy tale castles to be found anywhere in the world. It is the cultural and historical capital of the Aude region sitting upon the Aude river and crossed by the breathtakingly beautiful Canal du Midi. During the summer it is host to innumerable festivals, and has the largest and most spectacular firework display in France on the 14th of July. Even in low season and winter there is plenty to do with the winter markets, truffle and duck fairs and antique fairs. The Carcassonne Festival takes place throughout Jul with many of the events taking place in Place Carnot.

Cathar Country: The region around Carcassonne is world famous for the Cathar history, and for the many castles that were built from the 12th to the 14th century. Many of these have survived and worth visiting especially for anyone interested in the legend and myths of the Holy Grail. Within an hour you can be walking or skiing in the mountains of the Arriege, and within two hours in the Pyrenees. The number of places to visit in one week is almost unlimited and there is plenty to occupy you in Carcassonne alone for a week.

Eating and Drinking: Carcassonne sits on the edge of the Langedoc wine region and is literally surrounded by vineyards and wineries. We can organise wine tasting tours for our guests and advise you on local restaurants and local specialities. The apartment has a library of guide books.

Place Carnot Apartment

Lou & Col Farington, Leyland
Review Submitted: July 5, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
Date of stay - May/June'09 - 2adults 1child (6)

We had a wonderful time at this apartment and in Carcassone itself. This was our first time in France but hopefully not the last! Superb, clean apartment with amazing views from the rooftop terrace of all around Carcassonne. Alex & Pipa were extremely friendly and helpful and were just a phone call away if needed. The apartment had everything we needed and was an ideal size for a small family and within easy walking distance of all attractions and amenities. Obviously La Cite is well worth a visit as is the boat trip on the Canal du Midi. The area where the train station and Canal du Midi are is quite pretty and there are nice walks along either side of the Canal with beautiful views of La Cite. Restaurants can be slightly expensive but this is France! Although there are meals to suit every budget and wine is fairly cheap. There are excellent bakeries close by which we visited.
Lac de la Cavayere is well worth a visit and the stunning walk takes you all around both lakes (not many people seem to know about the 2nd lake behind) which is just as pretty, and had stunning views.
Thank you Alex and Pipa

Best short break

Review Submitted: October 23, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
This was my seventh trip to Carcassone over a 25 year period. I never tire of this part of France and I have stayed in some very impressive accomodation which is something of a hard act to follow.
We were there for four days but only wanted a hire a car for one day. (parking can be a problem in old towns).
The appartment was a perfect mix of character and modern, with views of the sqare frim the lounge, and wonderful views from the roof terrace.
Alex met us at the appartment as agreed, he was friendly and helpful and we were made to feel very welcome.
I cannot fault the accomodation, location or the owners and thanks to them our stay exceeded our expectations.
I would add that the exercise we had climbing three flights of stairs did no harm and helped burn off some of the calories.

Spacious and well located

Michael Clegg Cambridge, UK
Review Submitted: September 6, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We (two adults and one six year old) stayed in the appartment for the last week of August 2009.

The living room and main bedroom are spacious; the bathroom and kitchen bijou - but well presented and perfectly functional. Furnishing is elegant and the roof terrace is a lovely, characterful addition.

The apartment is right in the heart of La Bastide - that means some inevitable street noise, but nothing intrusive three flights up (though those three flights may help work off the cassoulet!)

Highly recommeded.

Lovely central apartment

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful apartment. Very clean and well presented with lots of thoughtful little extras which made for a comfortable stay.

Plenty of good restaurants to choose from, but for a good, reasonable meal the bistro at le terminus takes a lot of beating.

Spent a few days at Lac du Cavayere and found it simple to get to and a very relaxing place too - no loud tourists or rubbish lying about, just tranquility and sunshine.

Attended an outdoor spectacular at the medieval cite which was amazing, and I believe there are regular other shows presented there.

Although Alex and Pippa were unable to meet us due to their own holidays, their friends welcomed us and Pippa and Alex kept in touch. Not one to miss!

Lovely apartment, great owners, superb location!

Deb_s Leeds, U.K.
Review Submitted: July 27, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
Spent 12 nights staying in this apartment during July 2009 and including the 14th July Bastille Day celebrations - and had a wonderful holiday.
The apartment is well furnished, with a mix of antique and contemporary furnishings and is very comfortable and clean. As the apartment is on the third (top) floor of an old building there is no air conditioning, but that is to be expected in such an age of building and made up for by it's charm and character.
The roof terrace is a lovely place to have a glass of wine whilst enjoying the amazing view of La Cite. We viewed the Bastille Day fireworks from the terrace - and they were fantastic - a real highlight of the holiday and of the year - and the apartment has one of the best views available across the city! The terrace is shared with other occupants in the building - although I did not get the impression that others used it often.
The apartment is in a great location, on the corner of Place Carnot. Don't miss the market on a Saturday - why don't we have markets like that in England !?! Loads of bars and restaurants to choose from nearby and if you're looking for WiFi (to hunt down those local vineyards!) - the local Irish bar 'The Celt' provides free access as long as you are buying a drink.
We used the car park recommended by the owners, which is located just outside the city walls - 5 minutes walk away - and we bought a 15 day pass for €40 which gave us 24 hour access - with extremely helpful car park staff.

Overall a great holiday and I would recommend both the apartment and Carcassonne as a place to stay.
