Just completed, charming, traditional wooden cottage on the western coast of Antigua. A short stroll takes you to the truly superb and unspoilt Ffryes Bay. The sunsets here are spectacular. The tradewinds flow through both bedrooms and the patio is the perfect place to sit in the shade and sip a drink with your feet up. Great value for 2 couples or a family with older children. Each bedroom is en-suite and the open plan kitchen cum living area separates them for added privacy. Solar heated water, ceiling fans and a fully equipped kitchen create a perfect family getaway. There is a large open deck at the back for outdoor dining or tanning. Jolly Harbour [the Caribbeans largest Marina] is just minutes away by car with a well-stocked supermarket, restaurants and shops. St.Johns is a 15-20 min drive away. We are offering an introductory lower price as the landscaping is incomplete and the goats wander freely nibbling as they go. Home away from home if you like the simple life.

Self-catering 2 bedroom &2 bathroom wooden colonial cottage. On west coast [Ffryes Bay] of Antigua close to Jolly Harbour. Halfway between St. Johns and English Harbour so a good jumping off point to experience the whole island. Ffryes Bay is a quiet, gorgeous white sand beach with no major hotels or developments. The crystal clear and calm water is ideal for floating, swimming or snorkeling. Dennis' restaurant on Ffryes bay is a popular spot for good food at great value with a fabulous view. Part of an historical sugar estate, there are 2 partially restored sugar mills across from the cottage.The western part of Antigua is very rustic with traditional farming and fishing villages set amid verdant hills, the islands only rain-forest is minutes away with many walking trails and a zip-line tour. In sharp contrast bustling Jolly Harbour is a short drive away [taxis and buses are easily available on the main road] with shops, cafes, banks and boating. There is also a golf course.

Additional information about rental rates

  • A security deposit os 50% is required 30 days before the booking in order to reserve this period, failure to complete the deposit will automatically cancel the booking. The balance of the rental charge is due 3 days before arrival. There is a 75 dollar linen usage, washing and cleaning fee for each rental period up to 7 days and an additional charge of 50 dollars per week or any portion of a week after that . This fee includes changing and washing of the bedroom and bathroom linens once per week and a final cleaning on departure.

  • Each bedroom has a European styled open shower bathroom, tiled floor to ceiling in glass mosaic. The oval ceramic face basins feature a mix tap with hot and cold water. The toilets are American standard water savers with oval seats for greater comfort. There is a window in each bathroom so that you can enjoy a view into the back garden while showering or brushing your teeth. The plumbing is connected to a 60 gallon solar heater on the roof for hot water and there are 2 large 600 gallon tanks for collecting rainwater as a back up system to the regular supply of piped government water. We do urge you, however, to conserve water as Antigua is a dry island and all its water supply comes from costly and eco-unfriendly desalination. There is also a cold water outdoor shower off the back deck to allow you to rinse off sand from the beach before entering the house. Or to cool off while sunning on the back deck.

  • The simple and spacious bedrooms are furnished with comfortable queen size beds and traditional mosquito nets. They each have a walk in closet with ample hanging, shelf and storage space. There is a ceiling fan with adjustable speeds in each room and the french doors and windows provide a lovely breeze. The bedroom's double french doors open onto the front porch and the interior doors to the open plan living area. The bathrooms are European styled with floor to ceiling mosaics and open space showers with a backyard view. Although mosquito nets are provided we recommend the use of an anti-mosquito spray during the rainy season in the evenings.

Notes: As the location is rustic this cottage is best suited to independent travelers who do not require lavish service or entertainment. If you like to do your own thing and make it up as you go along this is the house for you. We suggest renting a car, moped or bicycle to set off exploring or for the experienced and intrepid traveler ...try the local public taxi minivans. Just flag one down on the main road [about 100m away], hop in and hop out when you see something you want to explore further. Rates are very reasonable but you must use local currency so change some money first before getting on. This cottage is built on sloping land to catch the sea breeze and so the steps are quite steep at the front to get to it. There is a parking space at the side of the house that leads to the backyard terrace then onto a back door that leads to the kitchen. Very young children or the infirm would not be suited to this property due to the steps and the fact that the yard is unfenced.

Housekeeping: The cottage does not come with housekeeping staff, cleaning products, linens and towels can be provided on request at the start of a holiday with the payment of a deposit of 50$. However renters are responsible for laundering them during their stay. All linens and towels will be collected on checkout and the deposit returned if none is missing or damaged. An inventory of household effects will be provided on check in and each item will have a replacement value assigned, any items broken and or missing will be charged at this rate to the renters at checkout. There is a final housekeeping fee of 50$ that will be applied to all rentals.

Extracurricular Activities: Renters are encouraged to make independent arrangements for their entertainment. Antigua boasts a variety of activities these should be researched and booked either before arrival or through a reputable travel agency and/or tour company in town. We discourage casual arrangements where there is no organisation to take responsibility. Please conduct all bookings and payments in writing and secure receipts at all times.

A wonderful quiet place

We stayed in Antigua in April 2009. We wanted to stay one week in the cottage ... but we decided to stay longer! The beach is not far away... maybe 500 m ...easy to walk... and I think Fryers Beach is one of the best beaches on the island. The cottage is clean - everything was brand new... so it was nice to cook. We travelled with our daughter (6 years) and she loved it too. The only thing I missed was a hammock - so if you have one - take your own with you!!! I would recommend this cottage to everyone who want to discover the island.
It's a perfect hideaway. It is possible to walk to the supermarket or to catch a bus, but to make it easier and more stress-free, its better to rent a car.

Lovely quiet spot

We stayed at this cottage with our 19 month old and really enjoyed it. Several people stopped to comment on how much they loved the house with two couples asking if they could have a look around as they were so impressed (wouldn't reccomend letting people in as a general rule ;))!!!. Its a brand new house, very nicely decorated, lovely outdoor decking to front and rear. Five minute walk to what we thought was one of the best beaches on the island. If you love banana boats, parasails, jet skis, beach sellers, hot dog stands, seeing loads of other tourists, organised hotel staff trips, aerobics in the pool, etc then this isn't the beach or cottage for you. Our child loved the goats which pass by several times a day. A quick hop in the car to Jolly beach, would reccomend hiring a car if you stay here although you can probably take taxis which pass often. Jolly beach too far but is where you can find everything you need including supermarket (v. expensive), Castaways beach bar, places to do scuba diving, sailing etc. Its a bit of a trek to walk to Jolly beach but thats a good thing as its too touristy for our liking. We loved staying at this house which suits independant travellers, and is the antithesis to an all-inclusive, stay-in-the-resort-the whole-time break, Only negative were the mosquitoes at night, there are mosquito nets but you have to be quite careful they are totally sealed. You will probably have the same issue everywhere in the carribbean. Also have to be careful of the steps at front for v young ones but we didnt have any problems. Lovely house, beautiful beach, Dennis' restaurant excellent and beautiful views. Great place to be off the beaten track and still be able to participate in activities close by when you want. Only our second trip to the Caribbean but overall were very happy.
