Esceuillens is a small and peaceful medieval 'Circulade' which enjoys breathtaking views of the Black Mountains and is surrounded by gentle rolling countryside, vineyards and sunflower fields. Our newly-renovated, charming home offers the perfect base to explore the vineyards, Cathars chateaux and medieval towns and cities of the Aude and Ariege regions. Sleeping up to 6, the house offers a fully equipped kitchen/ dining room with dishwasher and comfortable sitting room with wood burning stove and satellite TV/DVD. Upstairs compromises three bedrooms and a bathroom. The adjoining courtyard garden (with BBQ and garden furniture) has a traditional summer kitchen, now used as a utility room with washing machine. Linen hire service available. A tranquil hideaway, far from the stress of the modern world.

Les Lavandières is a typically French end of terrace house in the heart of this pretty hilltop village situated in the heart of some of the loveliest scenery in this region known as the Razés. You are ideally placed to visit the incredible fortified city of Carcassonne (about 25 mins), Montsegur and other Cathar mountain fortresses. Andorra and Albi are within reach, as is the Mediterranean coast and 15 minutes away you will find Mirepoix, one of France’s prettiest medieval market towns. Beyond Foix (45 mins) is the longest underground river in Europe where you can take a boat trip through the stalagmites and stalactites. Relax along the tranquil Canal du Midi which wends its way towards the Mediterranean, perfect for walking, cycling or hiring a boat for the day. Local wines can be tasted at most of the Domaines and especially recommended is the Blanquette de Limoux – a sparkling wine made by a process older than that of Champagne.

Notes: The house is best suited to older children and not toddlers. The bedrooms and bathroom are all on the first floor, accessed by a wooden staircase and therefore although the house is suitable for the elderly, it is not suitable for the infirm.

Lovely village house with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Although there aren't any shops/restaurants in the village, there are many within a very short, pleasant drive. The countryside is beautiful. We are glad we didn't opt to stay somewhere in Carcassonne, as it was very busy. This house was within easy driving distance of many places of interest. Lots of walking in the immediate area.
