Once part of a monastery, renovation on this property was completed in the spring of 2009 with conversion into a modern townhouse. Located on a quiet, private court with a centuries-old water well in the middle, you will find privacy in the heart of the historic center of Galatina surrounded by beautiful Baroque architecture. This house features all of the modern conveniences including 5-burner gas stove, convection oven, dishwasher, fridge/freezer and washing machine. The professionally equipped kitchen also has direct access to a patio with herb garden expanding to a private fruit grove. The large dining table comfortably seats 8. The master bedroom has a balcony overlooking the garden, en suite bathroom with separate shower and tub, air conditioning and ceiling fan. There are 3 bedrooms to accommodate 6 people. The kitchen is well equipped to ensure you can perfect your Italian cooking with a walkout herb garden on the patio. Three rooms are equipped with iPod speaker systems.

Puglia (aka Apuglia and Apulia) combines warm weather, beautiful architecture, and the freshest Italian food available. lt's easy to spend days just exploring Galatina in the heart of Salento, but don't miss nearby places such as the island fortress town of Gallipoli and the long stretch of powder white sand beaches south of Gallipoli called the Lido, as well as Li Foggi beach. Visit the city of Lecce for the Piazza Duomo, Roman amphitheatre and the Baroque jewel Santa Croce Basilica. The Adriatic port town of Otranto has a beautiful historic centre with a view of the Albanian coast in the distance. The Otranto Cathedral has a huge 700 square foot mosaic of the Tree of Life covering the entire floor. Continue along the coast down to the tip of the peninsula toward Santa Maria di Leuca for a scenic drive that rivals the Amalfi coast. There are many fantastic seaside restaurants, or pack a picnic and stop along the way. The bridge grotto at Gagliano is a great place to stop for a swim.

A hidden gem!

This beautiful house is in the centre of the tiny gem of a town of Galatina near Lecce. The owner has wonderfully restored it, keeping the charming features of the old monastery (vaulted ceilings, original stone staircases) while completely modernizing the interiors. We especially loved the kitchen opening onto a private garden, where you can have your morning coffee under the shade of a pomegranate tree. The kitchen itself is fully equipped, with some very nice touches such as a Nespresso machine with a supply of pods, a welcome bottle of wine, etc. Another great feature is the rooftop terrace with beautiful views over the town. You're walking distance to the main piazza and the shops and cafes nearby. The place really comes to life late night on weekends, when there's a party atmosphere in the piazza. All told, this is a very unusual and different way to experience southern Italy, and very high recommended for those who are tired of the usual places. Driving down the coast to the southern tip of the Salento peninsula is a must - parts of the drive are reminiscent of the Amafli coast. To sum up, this is especially recommended for the seasoned traveler who wants to experience Italy in a unique and different way. The house is a fabulous base from which to do this.

Wonderfully renovated house - with all facilities

The house has been wonderfully renovated with a modern taste. It has all sort of gadgets and facilities to make the most of your stay - Ipod-ready speakers, stereo, terrace projectot, etc. Kitchen is fully-equipped.
The location is very convenient to explore Southern Puglia, with Lecce, Gallipoli and Otranto at less than 30m. Galatina is a beatiful village itself.

Superbe demeure, très accueillante

Superbe demeure, très accueillante, où on se sent tout de suite chez soi.
Tout est fait pour qu'on se sente accueilli, depuis les mails du départ, auxquels une réponse pertinente et personnalisée est apportée très vite, jusqu'au lieu dont l'aménagement et l'équipement très complet (bravo pour la panoplie de cuisine ...qui donne envie de tirer partie des merveilleux produits de la région!), laisse penser que notre hôte accorde une réelle importance au fait que ses invités se sentent bien...
Nichée au cœur historique de la ville, on a aimé se balader à pied dans les ruelles alentour, puis rayonner à quelques dizaines de minutes de voiture pour visiter les belles cotes des Pouilles, avec une mer si bleue, avant de revenir à "notre sweet home".
Et bien sûr, l'architecture et la très belle restauration des lieux, qui en font un lieu assez exceptionnel...
Ahhh, un beau film en plein air sur le toit terrasse, (avec un son de qualité!) après un bon repas italien...ça donne envie d'y revenir!
Merci Mark de mettre ce bel endroit à disposition; un seul petit regret: le jardin n'était pas encore aménagé lors de notre passage...Dommage! nous ne doutons pas qu'il puisse devenir aussi agréable que la maison, une fois que le maître des lieux y aura mis sa patte...(c'est ce qui explique le "good" au lieu d'"excellent" que nous mettrons sans doute lors de notre prochaine visite!)

Une maison superbe

Nous avons séjourné une semaine à Giardino Segreto.
Galatina est une très jolie ville, les gens y sont accueillants et très gentil, idéale pour visiter le centre et le sud des Pouilles .
La maison est superbe.
La pièce du rez de chaussée est particulièrement belle avec ses voutes à croisée d'ogives en pierre.
Le propriétaire a su conservé le caractère monacal du lieu tout en mettant à disposition des hôtes des équipements de haute qualité.
On sent que le propriétaire a eu plaisir à aménager cette maison et à penser dans les moindres détails au confort de chacun et nous avons eu aussi beaucoup de plaisir à y séjourner.
