Thornicks House is situated in a conservation area in the heart of Thomas Hardy's Wessex. It is but a few minutes drive from Dorset's famous Jurassic coastline, most notably Lulworth Cove, Kimmeridge Bay, Chessil Beach and Durdle Door. 20 mins drive to the west is the popular Georgian seaside town of Weymouth, with its lovely sandy family beach and old harbour. The locals are most excited that Weymouth/Portland will be hosting the 2112 sailing Olympics. A 30mn drive to the east takes you to the fabulous safe white beaches of Sandbanks (National Trust), from where a short car ferry trip takes you to Poole and Bournemouth. Dorset, of course, is famous for its beautiful countryside, old villages and historical monuments; Abbotsbury (Tropical Gardens and Swannery), Cofe Castle, the lost village of Tyneham, Milton Abbas (village and abbey), the Cerne Abbas Giant and Morton, the resting place of T.E.Lawrence, are all within easy reach.
