History:
The “Gaunches” were the original inhabitants of Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands, history believes that the earliest settlement was back in 200 BC. Their origin remains a mystery to this day, some believe they have Egyptian relations due to mummifying corpses while others believe they may be descendents from the lost city of Atlantis which is believed to be close to the Canary Islands. The Guanches worked the land and had a basic lifestyle using very primitive tools with the majority living in caves.
