First time on the villa rental scene in 2009, our house is just outside the market town of Orgiva (15-20 mins walk) in the Tijola area of Las Alpujarras, Sierra Nevada, Granada – a villa set in the country within a walled garden in a small residential enclave, private and quiet, with a delightful garden and large swimming pool (approx 12 x 6 m). Part of this self catering villa in Andalucia is 200 years old - a wonderful beamed ceiling in the living area reaching up over a mezzanine gallery at the end of the dining area gives character. It had always been a primary home until we bought it so we have refurbished it in keeping with its original farmhouse style, leaving the kitchen and bathrooms just as they were except for a few improvements. The furnishing style is a fusion of Bali and Morocco style with splashes of Spanish colour. Views in all directions are breathtaking. Furnishings are of a high quality. An easy 30 mins drive to long stretches of beach at Motril and Salobrena.

Rural Andalucia is famous for its little white villages that cling precipitously to dramatic hillsides and a way of life that is still quaintly of a different era in spite of the region’s popularity with tourists. The views are often breathtaking and none more so than in the Alpujarras, a range of hills which form the southern foothills of the Sierra Nevada. Granada. The area was first brought to notice in Gerald Brenan’s book, South of Grenada but it was Chris Stewart’s ‘Driving over Lemons’ that captured the magic of life in the Alpujarras. Our nearest town is the picturesque market town of Orgiva.   • All rates apply to 4 or less people . Please add 100 Euros pw for 5-6 people.
    i) Please add 100 Euros if you book less than 10 nts in peak summer/over Xmas.
    2) Where only daily rates show, we only take B&B bookings for up to 4 people. Rates are per room/nt.
    Please talk to us about terms for use of airconditioning/heating.

    Children:
    We prefer not to have young children at the villa, and cannot accept children that can't swim or more than two children at a time. If you are traveling with children, please contact us with details of ages/genders. Thank you.

    Booking and security deposit:
    We ask for a 25% deposit to book (non-returnable in the event of a cancellation unless we can refill the space, then we will just keep a 10% admin fee). We strongly recommend that you take out holiday insurance to cover cancellation and damage to Third Party property. We ask for a security deposit of 250 Euros/£200 to be paid on arrival against damage, breakage or other losses.
  • EXTRA HOUSEKEEPING, CLEANING AND COOKING: Extra housekeeping (if required) is payable locally at 8 Euros per hour. Our Spanish housekeeper will help to prepare meals (vegetables etc) at a cost of 8 Euros an hour, but she doesn't speak English.

    We have a wonderful English cook/chef available for meals which she will cook on the premises or bring ready cooked. Further details and costs on request, and you will need to book in advance.
  • Bed and breakfast guests:
    We love meeting new people and sharing our knowledge of this wonderful area of Spain with bed and breakfast guests. Except for the dates showing up as booked during April - August inclusive, please ignore the availability chart completely and email us with the dates you would like to come and stay. We can only accommodate 2-4 people at a time and charge 45 Euros/ night per room year round.

  • There is a bathroom with walk in shower cubicle, basin and loo between Bedroom 1 and 2 but there is a second bathroom with walk-in shower stall, two basins set in a tile topped vanity unit just steps away at the end of the dining area so each bedroom has its own bathroom. Bedroom 3 has an en suite shower room with walk in shower area, basin and loo.

  • Bedroom 1 and 2 are in the main part of the villa. Bedroom 3 has its own entrance from the main patio and enjoys wonderful double aspect views to the Sierra Lugar across the pool and garden. Quality of mattresses throughout is super luxurious and beds are 200 cm long so good for tall people. All bedrooms have air-conditioning/heating. Bedroom 3 has a ceiling fan as well.

Notes: Our Spanish housekeeper comes in for 2hrs every 3/4 days to clean, and do laundry (ironing extra). Linen/towel change once weekly. Please bring your own beach/pool towels. The gardener cleans the pool every 2 days, but you should skim daily and shower before swimming. The washing machine/dryer are in a separate outside laundry room. Use is restricted to when the housekeeper visits (no laundry service for 1 week visits). The air-conditioning units in bedrooms are for night use only in the summer and we ask for them to be used frugally (see terms and conditions). Electric radiators throughout (extra). We have a beautiful cat, who is an 'outdoor' cat so should not be encouraged to spend time in the house although she will love to be petted outside. Food is automatically dispensed in the laundry room! Although the house is mostly all on one level area, we have no special facilities for the physically challenged. The Mezzanine level has steep access and is not included in the rental

BED AND BREAKFAST at 45 Euros/room/night: We are very happy to welcome guests for short breaks on a bed and breakfast basis when we are in residence although only for 2-4 people at a time. Minimum stay 2 nights. For short stay guests that would like to enjoy a bit of a retreat atmosphere, and need to unwind and recharge, we offer Reiki, massage and reflexology. We especially welcome small groups (up to four people) from Reiki communities who would like to spend a weekend in Reiki – with daily shares. There is a dedicated Reiki space which guests are welcome to use but also we can set up Reiki in the garden.

ORGIVA, Las Alpujarras: Orgiva is a market town just 15-20 minutes walk away with supermarkets, banks, bars, cafes and a selection of restaurants among which a couple are notably good. Its pretty church with twin towers is a landmark in the region and its bustling street market on Thursdays brings together the produce of the region – a heady mix of herbs and spices pervade the air while the fruit and vegetable stalls heave with locally grown produce in season - avocados, mangoes, pineapples, plums, apricots, peaches, nectarines, grapes, figs and much more. There are two well-stocked health food stores and a vegetarian Moroccan restaurant for those on special diets.

ACTIVITIES - Places to see and things to do: The popular activities are walking (with plenty of guided walks), horse riding and bird watching but you can also go mountain biking and paragliding. There is also golf near Motril and, in winter you can reach the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada within 90 minutes. The Alhambra Palace in Granada is recognised as one of the great wonders of the world, and the fascinating city of Granada is one of the prettiest and most interesting towns in Europe. There is so much to see and do, you won’t tire from going back time and time again. The most important thing is to leave room in your suitcase to take home the flavours of Andalucia – delicious teas, exceptional honey, an incredible selection of fresh herbs and spices, jams, chorizo, local hams and cheese.

I almost don't want to tell everyone how fantastic this villa is! From the moment you arrive you will feel at home and relaxed and will be enthralled by the view! The house is immaculate and very well equipped. The living area is cosy and the kitchen has every utensil you could need. The beds are big and comfy. On arrival we received a lovely welcome pack and there were vases of fresh flowers and drinking water by the bedside! It gets even better outside as the garden and pool area are spectacular! Very well maintained the garden is full of pretty flowers with lovely scents and the pool is large. The garden is private and very peaceful and the views all around are lovely and in May, the mountains nearby had snow on them! All in all, you will not want to leave and like us you will want to return again and again!
