Almunecar is a large town with all amenities, including a huge choice of restaurants, tapas bars and cafes. There are 3 large supermarkets. Choice of beaches, all clean, with showers. Large Aquapark for children. Old quarter to explore-narrow, winding streets leading up to the ruins of a castle which you can visit for superb views over the sea. Market each Friday selling traditional Spanish crockery, clothes, locally-made jewellery, etc. Also a daily indoor market selling fresh fish, traditional Spanish pastries and other local produce.
Nearest town is Almunecar: 5 mins drive. Market each Friday and food market daily. Castle and Old Quarter. Superb waterslide complex for children. Many beaches.
Salobrena: 10 mins. Picturesque white-washed town tumbling down hill, topped by a dramatic castle.
Nerja: 10 mins. Pretty coastal town with large caves to visit and markets.
La Herradura: 10 mins. Relaxed village on the beach, very Spanish, undeveloped. Watersports.
Marina del Este: 10 m
The Costa Tropical has various excellent golf courses. There is an excellent horse-riding school 10 mins drive from the house, with English-speaking instructors. The 'Pradollano' winter sports resort is 1hr. 20 mins' drive away, so it's possible to ski in the morning and relax on the beach in the afternoon! There is an excellent British Ski School offering lessons at very reasonable rates.
2 communal swimming pools, non-heated, warm enough to use from May onwards. (Infinity pool open from 15 June onwards). Outdoor area comprises a hardwood decked and tiled area with pergola above, for shade. Beautiful mosaic-tiled outdoor table and wrought-iron chairs to seat 8. Garden alongside with colourful flowers, palms, etc. Gas barbecue and charcoal barbecue. Various sun loungers/beach chairs. Outdoor tap, hose, paddling pool.
15 mins' walk/5 mins' drive to nearest beach. Velilla beach is a peaceful, pretty cove surrounded by rocky hills and overlooked by an ancient lookout tower. There are 2 good restaurants on the beach itself. It joins up to the other wide beaches that fringe Almunecar, so from Velilla beach you can walk from one end of Almunecar to the other, nearly all on the beach. There are several children's play areas dotted all along the beaches, and plenty of restaurants to choose from.
The house is reached by descending 2 sets of steps, as it is situated on a hillside, so not suitable for those who find steps difficult. The rooms are distributed over 4 split levels, having only 5 or 6 steps between each level. Ground level: kitchen and living/dining room. Level 1: wc and bedroom with bunkbeds. Level 2: master bedroom with en-suite & bedroom with bunkbeds. Level 4: bedroom with double/twin beds and bathroom.
