The property is well insulated to keep it cooler in summer and warmer in winter, with double glazed pine-effect tilt and turn windows, and shutters. The bedrooms are a good size; light and airy, with high ceilings. There are two sources of water, mains and our well. Heating is by silent thermostatic electric heaters (remote controlled), and a wood burning stove giving ample warmth all year round.
Ample gravel driveway/turning area, with a 1/2 inch lip to the terracing and ramped access to one door. All doors are extra wide. The bathroom is a wet room with grab-rails for the loo and shower, with pedestal washbasin. Both bedrooms are spacious enough to allow easy use of a wheelchair (both sides of the raised double bed). We made the house wheelchair friendly from the design stage. Walker provided. Other aids can be prearranged. Please contact the owners to discuss suitability.
It has an open, quiet location, warmed by the sun all day and passed by only 3 or 4 cars daily. Terraced on 3 sides, with garden furniture and BBQ. The gardens include orange, lemon, olive, almond and pine trees and flowers. We now have a Sunbelt Spa Polaris Hot Tub on the terrace for your enjoyment accommodating five people.
12 miles by road from Torre Del Mar, a seaside resort used by Spanish holiday-makers. Very good selection of supermarkets, shops and restaurants, Thurs market, attractive seaside promenade (wheelchair friendly) extending all the way to Caleta De Velez (Saturday market) with its harbour (leisure and fishing port), and beach with children's play areas. There is an aquasports center and bowling alley at Torre Del Mar.
We now have liaison with riding stables, allowing you to ride in the national park. Twitchers may see the European Eagle owl, Griffin vulture, eagles, and various smaller birds, including hoopoe, black wheatear, bee eaters and many more.
In Canillas de Aceituno, tourist information, post office, general stores, bakery, butchers, doctor, hairdresser, pharmacy, banks and cash machine, bars, 3 restaurants, one of them English run with excellent meals. See the village on Google Earth, and our house is at 36 51 43.20N, 4 05 33.54W. Alhambra Palace can only be visited by Internet pre-booking, except some days in the low season. The lakes above Malaga are in a woodland setting, with restaurants, walking, camping and picnic areas, (pedalo and canoe hire Easter to September). El Torcal is an interesting Karst uprising at a high altitude, so you can see vultures at eye level. It is a protected area where wild goats roam amongst the strangely sculptured rocks which were once part of the sea bed.
