La Bartola is well situated to visit Andalucia's beautiful and historic cities of Granada, Seville, Cordoba and the beaches of the Costa Tropical. The Alhambra Palace is the gem of the Granada, built by the moors in 890 and inhabited until Christian takeover in 1492 Its beauty and history can only be appreciated first hand; its decorative courtyards and the Generalife gardens planted with roses, oranges and english elms, etc, are second to none. From the villa you can literally be on the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada in the morning then enjoy the glorious beaches of the Costa Tropical in the afternoon, both being within 1hr 30 minutes of the villa. The beaches of the Costa Tropical begin with the beautiful fishing village of La Herradura and continue with Salobrena and Almunecar, all traditionally Spanish. Closer to home visit the stunning lake at Iznajar, or Riofrio and its specialist trout restaurants and renowned caviar farms where one can fish with a special licence.

  • Price includes the services of weekly cleaning, garden and pool maintenance. Bookings will be confirmed on receipt of a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total rental cost, the 75% balance payable 8 weeks prior to the arrival date. In addition, a refundable security deposit of 750 euros is required, in case of breakages/damage, payable in advance with final balance payment. Personal travel insurance is a requirement of booking the villa.

Notes: The villa comprises of 3 luxurious double bedrooms, 1 twin, 1 child's single plus 2 other rooms which you can request as you require. Two of the doubles can also accommodate an additional single bed if required. Three families with children can holiday comfortably together but with each having their own space! La Parte Nueva has underfloor heating throughout, a fully equipped open plan kitchen/diner with Smeg appliances and an open plan main lounge with feature fireplace and picture window. There is a large pantry with microwave oven, and a utility room and cloakroom. The 'Snug' area has a 42' plasma TV, DVD and comfy sofas, plus French doors which lead onto a riad courtyard and La parte Vieja. Also across the courtyard is a chill-out room with film/CD and book library plus a sound dock for your IPOD. NOW ALSO WITH Wii +Wii SPORT. Although the villa has not been specifically adapted for wheelchair users, many bedrooms/bathrooms at the villa can be accessed without the use of stairs

Located in the beautiful and green Spanish countryside the villa is private and not overlooked. There are stunning views and refreshing walks in all directions. From the main kitchen French doors lead to a shaded porch with outdoor eating area. There is a locked gate to the 10 x 5 private pool but of course children should be supervised at all times. Choice of sun/shade relaxation zones to suit both swimmers and sleepers. Sun loungers, day beds, wendy house... First floor 40 sq.m. terrace with breathtaking views to mountains and the midnight sky, perfect for star gazers. In the centre of the property is a chill out Riad style courtyard. There is ample parking for 6 cars.

Coast/Beach: the beautiful traditional Spanish beaches of Granada's Costa Tropical are approximately 1hr 30mins away by car. Alternatively, if you want to combine sunbathing with shopping, Marbella City is 2 hrs away. Both have their own qualities and are well worth the easy drive. Travel: Granada Airport is 50 minutes away. Malaga Airport is 1hr 15 minutes away. Car hire essential. Distances: by car - Ventorros de San Jose 5 minutes, Loja 20 minutes, Granada 55 minutes, Marbella 2hr, Seville 2hr 30, Costa del Sol/Tropical Beaches 1hr 30 mins.

The pretty village of Ventorros de San Jose (5 mins drive) has 3 supermarkets all with a butchers selling fresh meat and fish. There are 2 banks/cash machines in the village and lots of little cafes and bars/restaurants plus a pharmacy and a doctor's surgery. Iznajar lake is 40 minutes away providing water sports in the summer months. Sierra Nevada skiing is 1hr 15 mins. Costa del Sol and Costa Tropical Beaches 1-2 hours away. Luxury spa treatments can also be arranged at the villa.

What a time! What a place!

We chose this villa because it was one of the few we could find that combined the promise of both rural tranquility/privacy and high spec luxury. It more than delivered and we had a wonderful week there this September (wish it could have been two).
We did a few trips to nearby towns. Granada of course which is great particularly the science museum which is more fun than it sounds. Closer by I recommend Priego de Cordoba which is beautiful. We also swam in the Lake Iznajar. But to be honest most of the time we spent in and around the villa because when it's hot and sunny , you've got an immaculate pool, sunloungers and a BBQ why go too far. Inside is very tastefully done - a lot more modern than I expected. It's a nice blend of new and old/renovated. The local village is quaint and we whiled away a couple of afternoons outside one particular bar which served good food and seemed to understand our basic Espanol.
