Passiflore, Vitrac, nr. Sarlat
Review Submitted: November 1, 2009
Date of Stay: September 2009
My family group of 5 adults rented the Passiflore house during September/October 2009, and we thought it was excellent. It is situated on a farm site, with maize fields on two sides, and a barn and other gites close by, but not so close that they intrude on your peace and quiet. Everything was as described in the website, the house was very well furnished, and had all the cooking utensils and appliances we needed. We fired up the two wood-burning stoves on a couple of occasions, and then had to open the doors because they created so much heat! The pool area was very good, with loungers for six people, and we made the most of the late summer sun. We had several late evening meals by the pool and also at the usefully big table on the kitchen patio. The bedrooms were all of a good size, and the individual bathrooms were just what our particular family group required. The provision of a ground floor bedroom and bathroom was especially helpful, as I had suffered a serious leg injury prior to our holiday, and couldn't easily climb stairs. The lounge suite was large and comfortable, the house was clean and tidy, and the decor was modern and bright. There was a good selection of information leaflets. The owners, Bob & Bernadette, were very helpful and accommodating, and called in to make sure we were OK, although we coped with everything ourselves. I would have no hesitation in recommending this house and the owners (who have other properties in the area) to friends and relatives. This is one of the most beautiful sections of the Dordogne. There are numerous pretty medieval villages and castles nearby, and Sarlat has a beautiful medieval centre, filled with restaurants and bars, all serving local Perigord specialities. It's a good area for activities, too numerous to mention them all. Only 100 yards away from the house are two canoe centres for those trips down the river, and there is a hot-air balloon centre in La Roque Gageac, albeit very expensive! For the less adventurous, you can take tourist boat trips from there. There is also a cycle trail along a disused railway line running from Sarlat almost out to Souillac, around 14km. The village of Cenac is an easy 10-min cycle ride away, and has a good bakery for those morning baguettes and croissants. There is also a nice bar at the crossroads. We enjoyed the place so much we've booked it again for 2010, mainly so I can do all the things I missed out on this year.
