Through the golf course is the large resort village of St Lorenzen with restaurants, bars, supermarket & summer sports complex with outdoor swimming and paddling pools, cafe, children's play area, tennis & golf courts. Development also has a stop within a few paces to the Murtalbahn narrow gauge railway taking you all destinations along the valley to Murau and the ski station. Skiing: 5 mins drive or train ride (stop outside the chalet) to main gondala station at Kreischberg. Ski and Snowboard Schools, ski hire, 1.2km toboggan run,children's tubing arena, speed run, mogul piste, trampolines, magic carpet and baby lift.No crowds or lift queues. Kreischberg has an excellent snow and sunshine record with reasonably priced lift passes and ski hire. Largely undiscovered by British skiers. The ski area of Frauenalpe is a 5 minute drive away by car. Other larger ski areas of Hoetauern, St Michael and Obertauern are about 30/40 minutes by car.

Cycling: Family cycling and mountain biking routes for all abilities directly from the chalet. Mur River cycle path runs in front of the chalet - longest cycle path in Europe. Murtalbahn railway allows you to come back via train if desired.

Sightseeing: Pretty medieval riverside town of Murau with historic centre, merchants houses, famous brewery and museum Romantic St Lambrecht Monastry and town Spectacular Gunster Waterfalls (65m) - Highest in Styria Summer and winter toboggan runs at Turracher Hoehe and Grebenzen Excursions to Salzburg, Vienna, Carinthia (Austria's lake district) and Styria's wine region - dubbed Austria's Tuscany. Italian and Croatian Coasts. Fairytale Lake Bled in Slovenia.

Golf: Immaculately kept Gold club with undulating lawns, lateral and frontal water hazards, and spectacular peninsular and island greens. Set against a backdrop of forests. Clubhouse with good restaurant and golf shop. Awarded 'Best new golf club in Austria' by Golf Revue. Driving range. Special 'golf course group' discount cards available to cover 5 rounds (works out at 35 Euros per round as at September 2008)

Superb Summer Vacation

We have just spent a lovely week in Chalet Muriel. It was an easy 3 hour drive from Vienna and very easy to find with directions. The whole area was beautiful even though the weather was variable. Lots to do in the summer including tobogganing, swimming, cycling and the Murau Brewery Museum. The chalet is of a very high standard with plenty of cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. There were also plenty of places to eat out locally. We can't wait to go again - perhaps when there is more snow (yes there was snow in June!)

Skiing and Comfort

Very comfortable place with a beautiful view. With 4 adults and 4 children we were very comfortable. Good beds, well equiped kitchen. Quiet and peaceful, 10 minutes drive from the Kreischberg ski area. Not a big ski-area but big enough to ski around for a week.
