The apartment, 5 mins from Tavira, has everything you and your family could need for a relaxing, self catering holiday. Balconies to the front and rear give views from hills down to the sea, and provide sun through the day and evening. Pool furniture is supplied, and chairs to take to the nearby long sandy beaches. Air conditioning / heating units throughout, secure underground parking and lift access. Restaurants, cafes, deli with fresh bread daily, and take away are all within easy walking distance. Golf and horse riding are nearby.

The apartment is 5 mins from Tavira town centre. There is golf, horse riding and lovely walks all on your doorstep. Close by are several cafes, restaurants (some with take away), a deli with fresh bread daily). The supermarket is 1/2 mile away and open til 9pm. Many long sandy beaches near by, including Manta Rota, Isla Tavira (11km long ), Praia da Barril, Monte Gordo and Altura. Most of the beaches have facilities and amusements for children during the summer. There are water parks and theme parks in the area, including popular dolphin shows, and there are boat trips all along the coast - out to the islands, bird watching around the lagoon, or further afield for fishing and dolphin watching. The Ria Formosa and Castro Marim nature reserves offer wonderful walks and opportunities to see wildlife and birdlife, particularly famous for the flamingos. This part of Portugal is less developed and more traditional, with historic town centres and tiled houses throughout the area.

  • Euro payments welcomed.
    Security deposit of 300 Euros paid locally on arrival and supply of keys. This is refunded upon leaving and assuming the apartment is left in a suitable condition.
    Payment is 50% at time of booking and 50% to be paid 8 weeks before start date of holiday.
  • longer winter bookings are available at rates negotiable with the owner.
  • Arrival to be after 2pm and the property must be vacated by 10am on the date of departure to allow for cleaning. If access is required before 2pm on arrival or after 2pm on final day, please ask at time of booking and the owner will endeavour to assist with your request.

Notes: Large property, furnished to a high standard throughout. The kitchen has every amenity to ensure your holiday is as easy and relaxing as possible. Kitchen door leads to the main balcony which has seating for dining and benefits from afternoon and evening sun. The lounge is large with double doors leading also to the balcony. There is satellite TV and DVD player, with 100+ channels available. One of the sofas opens out into a very comfortable sofa bed. The large room also has a dining table and seating for 6, and lots of storage. The owner has attempted to cater for your every comfort, with guide books and maps, a library of books, games and some dvds. There are also items for the beach including chairs, umbrellas and a cooler bag for picnics. The property benefits from air conditioning and heating units, in all the main rooms, independently managed by remote control. Marble floors throughout add a touch of luxury. Linen and towels are provided and cleaning is included in the rental.

The Eastern Algarve: The Eastern Algarve is a superb location for family holidays, with long (& empty!) sandy beaches nearby many of which are blue flag & have a range of amenities. The coastline has lots of fishing villages and the countryside is known for the beautiful orange groves which are common throughout the area. The apartment is 5 minutes from Tavira town centre, one of the loveliest towns of the Algarve. Originally a fishing village, set along the river, it now has cafes along the river front, and is overlooked by a castle which has a public garden. The town centre has many traditional streets with tiled houses and pedestrianised squares, each with pavement cafes where you can sit and enjoy the atmosphere and the sunshine. The main town square hosts events throughout the year. A car is recommended, (secure underground parking provided), however there are buses running close by which take you the entire length of the Eastern Algarve, & trains run the length of the Algarve. (station is 1.5km).

What to do in the area: The area is ideal for relaxing holidays, with night life limited to restaurants, cafes and bars. There are 6 golf courses within 15m, including Quinta da Ria and Monte Rei. Closest is Benamor, which is described as a family course, with undulating hills and fabulous views inland to the hills and out to sea. There is a driving range, club hire and an excellent club house for golfers and non golfers alike. A horse riding centre is 250m, which caters for a mix of skill levels. The local coast line is well known for the Ria Formosa nature reserve, which has protected the area from over development. The nature reserve is for the local wild life, especially migrating birds, with flamingos regularly seen in the area. Some of the beaches to the east are on the nearby islands and can be reached by boat very cheaply, which makes an exciting change. Praia da Barril has a small train which takes you to the beach. The beaches towards the west are on the mainland with good parking.

Getting here /in walking distance & further afield: The apartment is on edge of town, giving easy access and parking. However within easy walking distance are several restaurants, including one within 100 metres which also has a great take away service. The local deli has fresh bread delivered daily, and is next door to the coffee shop, also both within 100 metres. There are play areas for the children, & the local supermarket is 1/2 mile away. The apartment is 26 km from Faro airport, with many car hire companies based at the airport. There is a wide variety of day trips- Spanish border is 30 km away, and it is easy to get to Seville (1.5 hrs away). Much nearer there are water parks and theme parks with dolphin shows. Monte Gordo has a casino, and there are boat trips out dolphin watching from Quarteira. A drive into the hills takes you back in time, with a different and amazing landscape and a slow pace of life. Ferries out to the islands will also show you a different side of Portugal. & there are regular traditional markets.

Our first trip to Portugal

This was our first trip to Portugal and so we genuinely did not know what to expect.

The flight to Faro airport and collection of the rental car was very straight forward and we were pleased to be given a car upgrade. Both the flight and car we felt were great value for money. It took us no time to get to the apartment with the directions provided.

The apartment was so much more than we were expecting - generously sized, finished beautifully and with every home comfort considered. The kitchen was properly equipped and the larger front balcony meant we could eat outdoors. The apartment was spotless and plenty of towels and linen was provided.

Though we didn't use the pool, it was clearly well maintained and open only to residents in the apartment block with pool side chairs provided by the owner.

The apartment itself is on a complex with amenities including a cafe, restaurant and shop selling fresh bread and the basics.

We met neighbours who were very friendly and helped us find our way around, but there was also lots of information, recommendations and books in the apartment.

It proved a great base from which to explore the area, from glorious sandy beaches (of which there are number close by) to travelling further afield into hillside villages, however we loved Tavira itself -a lovely Portugese town which we repeatedly returned to.

You do need to rent a car in order to see what this area has to offer, but don't be put off by this - car rental is very reasonable, roads and signage are good and there are many places to visit close by.

This is an area we really enjoyed and hope to return to. We had a fabulous holiday and would happily recommend this property to friends and fellow travellers.
