The Paleosite:
In the village of St Cesaire, 15 minutes from Gites du Logis, is the Paleosite. The village is famous with archaeologists throughout the world, its significance being that Neanderthal remains were discovered on an excavation alongside homo sapiens, dispelling the theory that mankind evolved from the Neanderthal, but lived alongside them. The Paleosite is a centre, developed on the site of the discovery, which incorporates archaeological learning and fun, for both adults and children. Very popular for a family day out.
Horse Riding/Golf:
15 minutes from Gites du Logis are the stables of Montils. A family run business, they have a large number of horses and ponys to offer for all standards of riding. The trek meanders through picturesque countryside and villages. Also available are tours in their gypsy horse and cart.
There are 4 golf courses within the immediate vicinity of Gites du Logis which offer great facilities. The golf courses are Cognac (20 minutes by car) Set in the heart of the cognac vineyards, Saintes (20 minutes by car) situated just outside the historic roman town, La Rochelle (1 hour by car) not far from the harbour and Royan (35 minutes by car) set amongst the pine trees on the coast. All courses are 18 holes and well maintained. All are open to visitors and non members.
Canoe/Kayaking:
In the village of Dompierre, walking distance from Gites du Logis, is the beautiful Charente River. A canoe Kayaking club is operated, taking people on tours of the river. Adults and children over the age of 8 can participate. On Thursday evenings during the summer, a moonlit sortie is offered, stopping off at a local riverside restaurant for an evening meal.
