Photos and Description of this Saint-Jean-d'Angely area holiday barn Ideally situated for a wide variety of activities and places of interest.

This new barn-conversion adjoining the owners permanent home is ideal for visiting the many historic and cultural sites in the area, and also for a family holiday, with beaches and other facilities within easy reach. The property sleeps 6 in 3 comfortable bedrooms, with room for a baby's cot if required. In addition there is a large kitchen/diner, and a living room with wood-burning stove and seating for 6. The spacious shower room has twin wash-basins, and there is an additional toilet with hand basin downstairs, a must for young families. Outside there is a large, grassy garden, shared with the owners, suitable for ball games etc. There are also 2 terrace areas reserved for guests' use, with garden furniture and barbeque.

Just 15 mins. from junction 34 of the A10, the gite is also ideally situated for a wide range of activities and site-seeing opportunities. La Rochelle,and a selection of beaches are approx. 1hr. away, while a bit nearer are Cognac, famous for its cognac houses, and Saintes ,with an amphitheatre and other Roman remains(30min.).Angouleme ,the major town of Charente is only 45mins away. Saint Jean d'Angély, only 15 mins. away ,is an historic market town on the pilgrim route of St. Jacques de Compostelle. In the summer months there are many events, often centred on the popular plan d'eau, where you can also fish or hire a pedalo or canoe. Next to the lake there is a leisure pool and fitness centre. The small town of Matha is 5mins.away for everyday shopping, bank, pharmacy etc

Additional information about rental rates

  • A 25% deposit is required to confirm a booking, with the balance due 6 weeks before the start of your holiday.
    A breakage deposit of £75 is required with your balance payment to cover any mishaps.This will be returned within 2 weeks of the end of your stay, minus any charges for damage or other services not previously paid for.

    While our gite is normally available from Easter until the end of October, please contact us for special rates out of season for long or short breaks.We are happy to consider your individual requests.
  • Bed linen and towels are not included in the price, but may be hired at a cost of £4 per single bed, £6 per double bed, and £5 per set of towels (2 hand and 1 bath).
    Please bring your own towels for the beach/pool.
    Tea towels and hand towels for the kitchen are included.
  • One cot and highchair are available free of charge, but must be requested at the time of booking.
    Please do not be afraid to ask if you require anything not mentioned here, we will do what we can to help.

  • The light, modern shower room is on the same floor as the bedrooms. It has a corner entry shower cubicle, toilet and two washbasins in vanity units. Downstairs behind the kitchen there is a second W.C. with wash-hand basin.

Notes: The gite is on a level site, with just one small step at the entrance,making it suitable for a wide range of visitors. The bedrooms and shower room are on the first floor, but there is a second W.C. downstairs, very useful for families with small children, and those with slightly reduced mobility. One well-behaved dog will be considered, please discuss this with us before booking. Smokers are quite welcome to stay in our gite, but smoking is not allowed inside the property.

Local facilities: The small town of Matha is 5 minutes drive away, and has 3 supermarkets, several banks, 2 pharmacies, 3 bakers, several doctors and dentists and a number of small shops. There is a market several days a week, and a 'foire' on the 1st Friday of the month. There are 2 restaurants in Matha, and another even nearer at Blanzac lès Matha.

Local produce: As well as the famous cognac houses in and around Cognac itself, there are many local producers. Just 20 minutes walk from our gite are 2 growers/producers, where you can taste and buy local cognac, pineau and liqueurs. A few minutes drive away you can buy sparkling wine direct from the grower.
