This property is decorated to a high standard throughout and is the perfect home from home. It sits in a private development, with shared pool, gardens and on-site caretaker. It has two bedrooms, shower room, separate wc, kitchen, large lounge and dining area, loggia, terrace and small front garden. It has a TV/video player, a CD/DVD player and large music/DVD/book library. The well equipped kitchen includes washing and dishwasher machines, oven, hob, microwave, fridge, coffee maker and toaster. The lounge has two sofas in a large sitting area. The elegant dining area has a modern glass table and chairs. The south facing terrace has substantial outdoor furniture and breathtaking views over the foothills of the Pyrenees. The loggia, with cane easy chairs and coffee table is perfect for those who prefer their coffee indoors but won't compromise on the view. The double and twin bedrooms are simple, modern and cool in summer. The shower room and WC are newly refurbished for 2009.

Just 25k north of the Spanish border, Collioure shares a common history, culture and independent attitude with Barcelona and other Catalan cousins but it is proudly and happily French. It is the historic picture postcard town of the Cote Vermeille with its winding medieval streets, seafront, beaches, 800 year old chateau and landmark bell tower and church. Collioure is a short drive or train ride from Perpignan, the closest city, and is perfectly placed for exploring northern Spain, the Pyrenees and even Andorra. Girona and Figueres (Dali museum) are easy drives. Closer to home the towns of Elne, Ceret, Port Vendres and Banyuls are worth a visit, as are the local vineyards and the villages of Les Alberes, the foothills of the Pyrenees. Collioure was the destination of choice for some of France's best known artists including Matisse, Derain and the other 'Fauvists' who used its uniquely clear light to create bright, vibrant paintings. Collioure is blessed with a wonderful sunny climate.

Notes: The house is beautifully furnished and fully equipped. Crockery, cutlery and appliances are new and of a high standard. An open plan staircase and glass tables make the property unsuitable for children or the infirm. Shared pool, tennis, boules and outdoor table tennis are not usually busy. Pool is open from June to September. Tennis racquets, table tennis bats and boules are provided in the house. Linen can be provided if required at a cost of £10 per bed. Linen comprises sheets, pillowcases, bathtowels, handtowels and teatowels. Although not centrally heated, the property has very effective wall mounted electric heating which can be used room by room.

Boat trips: Frequent boat trips from Collioure along the Cote Vermeille and down to northern Spain.

Walking: Many and varied walks into the surrounding hills, countryside, vineyards and olive groves. Themed walks (flora/fauna; Fauvist, Charles Rennie MacIntosh) from Collioure and Port Vendres.

Despite the slightly disappointing weather my husband and I had a wonderful time in this attractive part of France. The property was perfect for us. It was tastefully decorated, open, spacious and immaculately clean and well maintained. The kitchen was particularly well equipped and the bathroom was modern with a separate toilet. The open plan effect made the property feel airy. Good views of the surrounding hills gave it a sense of peace. Loungers at the pool area were the only notable omission.
The owners were very friendly and most helpful and even provided some of our en site entertainment i.e DVDs,CDs, books. The owners also provided accurate tourist and practical information about the area.
The area had lots to offer whether walking, sunbathing at Le Racou or wandering the narrow streets of the town. There were many restaurants to visit and lots of free local entertainment.
The use of a car is not essential because the local bus service is reasonably frequent and cheap. (1 euro). The walk to the town was enjoyable for us but might be challenging for those with restricted mobility.
Overall we had a brilliant holiday and can't wait to return.

Collioure Charm, excellent property

This is a lovely 2 bed "cottage" on a small development of about 50 houses.We were there for a week in early June and it was quiet with only a few, what appeared to be, full time residents in occupation. The property was spotless and very well equipped including books, games etc. The complex is well maintained, showing a few signs of ageing gracefully. Our party of 4 over 55's were delighted and appreciated the easy 5/10 minute stroll into the town centre. Collioure is the sort of place we could visit time and again. A french St Ives, arty, quaint, good food, plenty of attractions in and around the town and handy for outings further afield. No discos or rowdy bars full of lager louts. Highly recommended.

A month in the Collioure light in winter

1. The description of the property is accurate for some, not for others. Access may be quite difficult for some who are `mobility-challenged`. The steps and slope are at least 75 yards from the car space and quite steep, but well maintained.
2. The property. This was spotlessly clean and well maintained. This is a lovely house, easy to move around in and very comfortable.
3. The Gardien met us on arrival and showed us around the property.Excellent customer service.
4. We would recommend this property to our friends without reservation.
5. We loved the beauty of Collioure, its light and sunshine, its small and exquisite harbour and surrounds. It is easy to see what attracted Matisse, Picasso and others. The hinterland must not be missed - the length of the Tech and Tet Valleys up to the foothills of the Canigou Massif. We were there in March and caught all the fruit trees blossoming. Roussillon/Catalan country is magical.
