Step back in time & relax in our beautiful studio/loft apartment which is set in the heart of the Medieval Historical centre of Sarlat. Our apartment is set at the top of a stone spiral staircase in a 15th century townhouse overlooking the old roof tops of Sarlat. The apartment is L shaped with a high attic oak beamed ceiling & stone walls. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need for those romantic dinners for 2 (if you can tear yourselves away from those gourmet restaurants) or maybe that breakfast in bed? The bathroom is perfect for that relaxing bubble bath soak after all the sightseeing. The lounge has a dining table a 2 seater sofa an armchair, coffee table, TV/DVD a selection of books/DVD's and games and the wonderful roof top view. The cosy beamed bedroom is set in an alcove off the lounge area. On leaving the building you step right into the heart of Sarlat, surrounded by Shops, Restaurants, Cafes, Markets, art galleries and the Cathederal of St Sacredos.

  • Our rental rates include bed linen, towels, and electricity.

    We require a 100 euro security deposit, this is held for the duration of your stay and returned to you on your day of departure or if early departure within two weeks.
  • For your arrival we will only be too happy to get in some provisions for you for your first evening and breakfast so you can relax after your long journey!
  • CANCELLATION: We strongly recommend that guests take out travel insurance with cancellation cover at time of booking. We require a 25% non-refundable booking deposit. The remainder of the balance is to be paid 8 weeks before arrival.

Notes: Our attic/studio is located in the historic part of Sarlat with restaurants, shops, bakers, market, cathedral, art galleries tourist information on your doorstep - because it is in the historic centre parking is not allowed, but there is free parking about 600 metres away. The apartment is situated in the attic of a Medieval town house which offers a lovely view of the old roof tops of Sarlat, it is reached by an old stone spiral staircase, 4 flights which may not be suitable for the infirm. We have portable fans for your comfort.

Sarlat: Sarlat dates back to around the 9th Century and some say before , but it was probably at the beginning of the 9th Century, with the founding of a Benedictine abbey that the real history of the city began. As time went on Sarlat evolved even coming under English rule for 10 years in 1360.! following repeated episodes of plague, famine & flooding and local uprising - Sarlat remained unchanged - indeed forgotten and slowly fell into dis-repair, totally unsuited to modern day living with narrow streets & lack of sanitation. But this handicap was to become an asset when the city was one of the first to benefit from the Malrux law of 4th August 1962. This law on protected areas quickly led to extensive renovation work. Today, this restoration work carries on an architectural heritage that remains the main treasure of Sarlat, indeed Sarlat is often used as a backdrop for Films such as Les Miserables and holds 'The Sarlat Film Festival' each November.

Surrounding Area: Once outside Sarlat you are surrounded by some beautiful countryside and stunning views. Take a trip along the Dordogne river on a gabarres, or if you fancy a bit of exercise the canoes are worth a trip, bring a picnic and spend a day on the river. Explore the many caves and grottes in the area, and the cave paintings of Lascaux 2. See the sights from above by taking a balloon ride or a trip in a plane ! The rock formations of Les Eyzies are well worth a visit and the beautiful Chateaux/gardens of Les Milandes,( the home of Josephine Baker) Marqueyssac, Castelnaud,Fenlon and D'Eyrignac. Step back in time(100 years) and take a trip to Le Bournat, enjoy the fairground rides and workshops, visit the aquarium, or the new zoo reserve. Rocamadour about an hour away is well worth a visit, - a monkey park ,falconry, zoo, caves, fantastic views, and the pilgrim walking route, with beautiful churches. And for RELAXATION - the lakeside beach of Tamnies ten minutes away from Sarlat.

A fantastic apartment in the heart of it all .....

The apartment was in the centre of a picturesque city with lots to see and do and only a short drive from the river and tourist attractions. It was well equipped with everything you need to make yourself comfortable. The apartment was surrounded by plenty of restaurants and gift shops for those gifts to take home but a bustling market on wed's and sat's to buy lots of local produce to cook your own meals. The locals were friendly and helpful especially if your french is'nt all that!! We were welcomed into the apartment by fantastic and friendly owners who made us feel comfortable and were at the end of a phone whenever you needed them.
For our first holiday to France as a couple this apartment was perfect and gave us everything we needed and more!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway

Medeival Apartment

Oh what a beautiful old town. We were lucky enough to stay in this apartment during Bastille week. The Old Town is kept very clean and there were entertainment going on during the day and evening every day, the highlight being Bastille evening.

The apartment is at the very top of a medeival building and furnished to a very high standard. There are 104 steps to climb to the apatment and although we did get puffed out climbing them initially, we soon got used to them and it was easy. We are both in our 70's but are fit.

One does not need to take a car as the train runs from Bordeaux to Sarlat and the owners will meet you at the station. There is a Tourist information place and one can get out and about quite easily but there is so much to do and see in Sarlat itself. That we stayed the whole week in the city and had plenty to do and see just walking around.

Hey! run down the stairs in the morning pick up a fresh bagette to eat for breakfast with jam, cheese, or ham. Yummy!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway

Sarlat is full of entertainment during the Summer months with many festivals, markets, street entertainment, the theatre festival, and the Fete Nationale (Bastille day) where a fairground arrives. If you don't have a car and arrive by train..we will pick you up at the station and take you to the apartment,then it's your choice if you want to hire a car, or relax in the centre of Sarlat. Hope to see you again in the near future. !

A great home base for exploring the Dordogne

The studio apartment is a comfortable size for 2 people - cozy, but spacious enough to stretch out a little, cook, watch TV, eat, and even do some laundry. We stayed for a week. There is not that much to do in the town of Sarlat, but it has everything you need: market, supermarket, internet cafe, ATM's, so it is a great home base. We did day trips each day to caves, hiking, canoeing, etc., and had our own little home to come back to every night. We loved it. Also, the owners are very friendly and helpful. This apartment is a great value and I highly recommend it.

Sarlat out of the "High" season is sedate and beautiful, taking on a mysterious air, taking you back in time to the 15th century........you still have the restaurants, art galleries, markets, cathederal and winding cobbled streets hiding little treasure - boutiques, and is a great base to stay as it's surrounded by fantastic countryside, scenery and of course history, with caves, and chateaux, bastides, and food !! If you arrive in the "High" season (July & August ) Sarlat is a hub of activity with day and evening street entertainment, music festivals, theatre and exhibitions ..............plenty to see and visit..........! and ofcourse you have the modern conveniences you need to enjoy your holiday in comfort.

3 jours rêvés à Sarlat ,plongés en plein coeur du centre historique comprenant le marché du samedi, l'Office de tourisme, les restaurants et commerces ... Beaucoup de visites à faire aux alentours .

Perfect Location and Excellent Hosts

The location of this studio apartment is absolutely perfect, right in the center of the historical area. The amenities such as refrigerator, freezer, washing machine, microwave and cook top made our stay much easier and more enjoyable. We didn't hesitate to buy fresh vegetables, fruits and meats at the markets knowing we could keep things cool in the refrigerator.

You will love the ancient, exposed beams in the ceiling, too, and the view from the window. And since the apartment is on the top floor, it is well away from street noise.

Finally, our hosts Paula and Barry were outstanding. They met us on site to show us around and offer suggestions about the area. They live close by, and can be reached easily in case you need them.

If our future travels take us to Sarlat again, we will definitely contact Barry and Paula. Thank you for helping make our vacation very enjoyable.
