Beaches, pools and sports:
The nearest beach is at L'Espiguette in Grau du Roi and is about 7 minues away by car. The beach is sandy and there is no development on the 27kms. You can always find an area that is not crowded, to enjoy the Mediterranean Sea and sun. There are family beaches at la Grande Motte, Grau du Roi, Sete, Agde, Palavas les Flottes and Carnon. All the beaches are sandy with great swmming. There are a number of pools in the area with the neaerst sizeable one at Grau du Roi. There are plenty of tennis courts, golf courses and gyms in the area. The Camargue is famous for its horses and there are lots of stables in the area to go riding. The Camargue is a great place for bikes and cycling, with lots of cycle ways through the Camargue. There are also lagoons for wind surfing, water skiing and paragliding. You can hire boats and yachts of all varieties, as well as canoes and kayaks. The villa has its own mooring if you want to hire a boat and leave it outside the villa.
Activities:
Languedoc is the largest wine producing area in France, and there are plenty of vineyards to visit. You can bring wine back to the terrace to enjoy whilst you are looking out across the marina! The area is very historic, with neolithic, greek, roman, and medieval sites to explore. Aigues Mortes is a stunning town filled with great restaurants, cafes and galleries. There are cruises along the coast, to some of the islands, and through the Camargue. Please contact us for details. You can also reach Nimes, Montpellier, Arles, Avignon, Carcassone, Bezier, Narbonne, Sete, Agde and Uzes very easily from the villa. There are pretty seaside towns to visit, the best of which is St Marie de la Mer, and fantastic Cathar sites in the nearby hills.
There are also art classes, French courses, cooking courses and a variety of other activities that we can provide you with details of. CamargueMarina House is a great villa to stay as a base from which to enjoy these activities from.
There are a number of walking clubs which provide walks and rambles from an easy grade, to more strenuous hill and mountain walking, and we can provide you with further details fo these. Skiing is about 2hours from the villa either West to the Pyrenees or North. You can also travel to Provence, or further North into the Auvergne, or explore the Tarn Valley Gorges from here. The villa has a pack with details of activities and local sites of interest for you to explore.
