Cape Bear Lighthouse and Points East Coastal Drive:
'The Old Winsloe House' is situated directly on the Points East Coastal Drive in Guernsey Cove very close to Cape Bear where a famous lighthouse is situated. A'Mayday' message from the sinking Titanic was received here. Our beautiful, newly refurbished, ‘Century’ house sits snugly in two acres of gardens and woodlands in a quiet country/coastal area. Its large sitting room and decking area faces Northumberland Strait. Super views. There is private access with steps to a small secluded beach at the Cove and our small woodland. Facing south the waters are warm in summer. In winter ice floes in the Strait can be observed piled up on the beach. Nearby are the pretty fishing villages of Murray Harbour and Murray River with golf; hiking, biking and winter cross-country ski-ing on the Confederation Trail; seal-watching tours; fishing tours; lighthouses winery, restaurant and some small shops. In summer whales have been observed within the Strait. There are many more quiet places.
Montague and Charlottetown:
Montague is our local town:
only 20 minutes by car and the capital of Kings County. Historic Georgetown with gourmet dining is only a little further on and worth an evening out including at the old theatre there. In Montague you can get all you need including banks, restaurants and cafes, a choice of superstores Sobey's and Montague Superstore, swimming baths, a liquor store, choice of churches, hardware shops and almost anything you may need. Try the country and western and rock music and dancing at Poole's Corner.
Charlottetown:
the capital city, an hour's drive away, with its historic lovely old houses, pubs, restaurants, Anne of Green Gables musical, shops, promenade walks etc. is certainly worth a visit. Search this area and you will find Cundall's old house, now a museum. Cundall was once the manager of the Winsloe Estates the same old English family as former occupants of the 'Old Winsloe House'. Historians and family genealogists can explore archives in the Town Hall.
