St Julien de Lampon holiday house: St Julien de Lampon

Our extended family group of 11 found this the perfect house for our week together in France. It was beautifully furnished and maintained, and very well equipped, with plenty of room for us all. The communal areas were much bigger than we had imagined from the photographs - altogether the house exceeded our highest expectations. The heated pool was large and safe and a great hit with the grandchildren, as was the garden for games. We took noodles for the pool, boules, and board games for evenings, but we needn't have bothered. It was all there already! There was plenty of garden furniture, and shady trees to sit under as well as sunny spaces. The iced water dispenser on the fridge deserves a special mention - the weather was hot!
After much trawling of the internet, we had especially chosen a house in a village, and this was a great advantage. We could walk to the patissier for the morning croissants, to the bridge for canoe hire, and to the river for paddling and catching frogs. We also went further afield to visit the palaeolithic cave paintings at Font de Gaume (book a month before you go, it is a world heritage site), the museum of prehistory at Les Eyzies, and closer to home the Chateau de Fontenay and a children's animal park on the road to Sarlat. All highly recommended and there were so many other options!
We took turns to shop and cook, so didn't eat out much, but we had take-away pizzas from the square on our last evening, and lunch on our last day at Le Roi Carotte in the village. Both good.
Altogether, an ideal location, with plenty to do for the energetic and a beautiful house and garden for those of us preferring to relax in the sun. We are already planning our next visit.
