To get to Carcassonne:
You can fly to Carcassonne by Ryanair from London, Shannon, Liverpool, Nottingham, Dublin, Cork and Charleroi (34 miles from Brussels). There is a shuttle service which takes you to Carcassonne town centre.

The TOUC service (from May to October) offers you free use of small electric vehicles allowing you to travel freely around the town centre.
The Medieval Cité is a cosmopolitan area where a large variety of shops are open at all hours.
It is also a place to meetings, to exchange opinions, and to escape from the humdrum.
Carcassonne town centre, called the Bastide of Saint Louis, is linked to the Medieval Cité by the old bridge which spans the river Aude. The town centre is 15 minutes away on foot. The 'Ile de la Cité' which lies between the two sites, is an ideal place for jogging or for simply strolling along the river banks while admiring the surrounding scenery (The fortress of Carcassonne).
The Medieval City-Activities:
The city of Carcassonne, built on the right bank of the river Aude, is Europe's biggest fortress. It consists of a fortified central area, the Chateau Comtal, (can be seen from the house), and double surrounding ramparts: the outer ramparts, which have 14 towers, are separated from the inner (24 towers) by fortified walls.
Other must sees are the Porte Narbonnaise, the Basilique Saint Nazare, the Chateau Comtal and numerous museums.
