Wonderful property & area

We loved the cul-de-sac setting of this property, every house was different so full of character and it feels like a genuine home in a way that I imagine the holiday complexes would struggle to. The main coast road is a few minutes walk away so you don’t hear the buses and the horns! The wildlife enjoyed the setting too and we were lucky enough one afternoon to spot 3 green monkeys along the track and a hummingbird in the gorgeous palm tree that’s in the garden. Mary was there to welcome us at the property and was only a phone call away for any queries we had, plus Sandra popped in to save us from the housekeeping so it was a truly relaxing holiday. With a visiting gardener too it was a well cared for property. We didn’t want a solely beach holiday and for a small island there are plenty of sights. I particularly liked the historic houses but just driving around is interesting. We learnt to become relaxed about navigating because we had a tendency to lose our place on the map whenever we strayed from the highways. The locals were so helpful with this matter and offered directions that turned into a chat. Our small hire was perfect for doing 3 point turns on narrow lanes! It was convenient to have a car, especially for shopping bags but buses are very plentiful with a simple system so we can understand why a car isn’t crucial and why there were so few pavements. The facilities in walking distance were the Mullins beach bar, a Chinese restaurant and the petrol station, we enjoyed this out-of-town simplicity. We seemed to see a lot of the island but never felt that we found an area more idealic than Mullins. There were two local beaches in easy walking distance and each had a different appeal. We favoured Gibbes, an un-commercial stretch of heaven which is fronted by stylish beach homes giving it a sort of private feel. It must have looked equally inviting from the sea as some days it lured a few small chartered boats to its waters but most of the time it was just a handful of people on the shore. Mullins is a road side beach which is a bit smaller and has a more social and sporty atmosphere, well serviced by bar and loungers. Renting a house is a perfect way to experience leisurely island life, we barbequed fresh fish from one of the fish markets dotted along the coast road and enjoyed the pool as much as the beach. With the facilities, space and privacy that this property offered we didn’t miss home at all. Thank you so much Lucy, Mary & Sandra.
