The beautiful coach house in the charming grounds of the owners historic Manor house in the glorious Loire Valley near Saumur has been lovingly renovated into 3 one bedroom cottages. Montlouis sleeps 2 adults and with easy access to all amenities and sights, including the local markets and châteaux and several excellent restaurants, is perfect for couples or 2 seeking a relaxing sightseeing or wine tasting holiday in wonderful French countryside. The cottage retains the character of the ancient building with wooden floors exposed timbers and galleried first floor. It is tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard. The sitting room opens onto an enchanting terrace courtyard; ideal for long lazy lunches or merely enjoying a glass of the local Saumur wines. Rear garden for badminton, boules & BBQ. There is so much to see and do in this region of the loire valley, a UNESCO heritage site. Known as the garden of France the area is perfect for walking cycling fishing bird-watching and horse riding. 20 mins away is the beautiful town of Saumur on the banks of the Loire. Saumur and the surrounding area with its wealth of Chateaux museums galleries chic shops and gastronomic restaurants is a tourist paradise. It is the National Equestrian Centre of France and home to the Cadre Noir Regiment.The regular shows of outstanding horsemanship are spectacular. The charming town of Montreuil bellay 5 miles east has a fairytale Chateau antiques market and pretty squares. It is a picturesque place offering walks and several eateries. Doue la Fontaine, a large town, 5 miles north is famous for its rose production and its renowned zoo. We are just 2 miles from a supermarket, pharmacy, bakery, bar/tabac & restaurant. Our boulanger calls several times a week with freshly made baguettes pains etc.

  • A deposit of 25% is payable on booking. The balance is payable 8 weeks before arrival.
    A refundable security deposit of £100 is payable with the balance payment.
    A local visitor tax of 0.90euro per person per night is payable on arrival.
    Escorted wine tours, wine tastings and dinners can be booked with the owners. Please request details of current tours.
    An arrival pack can be provided to your order.
    With your comfort in mind a general clean of the cottage, prior to your arrival is included in the rental.
    We recommend you take out comprehensive travel / holiday insurance when booking.
    Strictly no smoking inside the cottage, courtyard and poolside.
    Secure parking is provided within the gated grounds.
    The friendly British owners Simon and Karin will be residing in the manor house during your stay and will provide help if required.
    Montlouis has a brochure of helpful information maps and tourist leaflets to introduce you to the area.
    Pool is heated from 23rd May to 26th Sept
  • Please note lets do not have to be from Saturday to Saturday. Any term of at least 7 nights will be considered.

Notes: The beautifully presented sitting room is comfortably furnished in contemporary style. The kitchen area is well equipped and has a combi microwave/oven. The lovely sheltered terrace courtyard is shared with 2 other cottages. The large rear garden with picnic and barbecue area is for the exclusive use of our guests. The washing machine is housed in a separate laundry room. There is a charge of 3 euro per wash (includes powder). The swimming pool is heated from May to end of September. Guests must bring towels to use around the pool and to completely cover the lounger cushions. An electric wall heater in sitting room and heated towel room in en suite shower room ensures a warm cosy cottage in cold weather when heating is included. Quality white cotton bedlinen is provided and the bed will be made up for you to minimise effort on arrival.

We arrived at the Gite on 21/08 for 9 days. First impressions were very good. Gite was very nice and the area was beautiful. The hosts seemed very nice too. We had a very pleasant stay and everything was realy nice.

The only things I would fault were the fact that when booking there was no mention of a shared patio (wasnt a major problem as the other guests were nice). Also there were a few too many rules and regulations posted around ie about pool / keeping everyting tidy and what to do ets etc. We also had no clean towels given to us for the full stay. Apart from this the stay was very enjoyable. I would rate this place 8/10.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing

We enjoyed a glorious week at the Montlouis cottage which has been renovated to the highest standard whilst maintaining its rustic charm. The pool area is immaculate and fantastically equipped. We availed of the opportunity to experience the wine tasting dinner in the Manor with fellow guests and our hosts Karin and Simon and what a wonderful fun evening we had! - Could not recommend it highly enough. The surrounding area has both amazing sites and wonderful food. Best mussels in France can be found locally. This property is highly recommended!

We had a fantastic stay at this lovely cottage in July 08. Great location for chilling out and seeing the sights. Karin and Simon were very friendly - nothing was too much trouble for them. The pool was cleaned every morning and it was a pleasure to sunbathe and swim in such gorgeous surroundings.
The cottage was immaculate. The king bed v. comfortable.
We had an easy drive down from Calais following Karin's superb detailed directions. Will visit again and would definitely recommend it.
