Stylish, beautifully decorated villa with pool, in small village set in the heart of spectacular Cathar country. Modern, open-plan kitchen leading onto dining area which in turn leads onto lounge, glazed on two sides with patio doors opening onto huge covered terrace overlooking pool 9m x 3.9m and garden. Patio provides plenty of shade during day and gets late evening sun for relaxed dining. Teak patio furniture for 8 and plenty of room for the BBQ! Sunny garden with large grassy area to the rear of the house and small stream overlooking fields . The house is on the edge of Rivel, a small village with a medieval centre, 5min drive from the small attractive town of Chalabre. Chalabre has several restaurants and bars, a pharmacy, bank (With cash point) small supermarkets, butchers and vegetable shops. Weekly market. Mont Segur and several other famous Cathar strongholds are within easy reach. The ski station of Mont D'Olmes is 45 minutes away. Tennis courts in village centre.

Notes: Not suitable for very small children unless carefully supervised as small unfenced stream runs along garden. This can be seen on the photo of the hammock. Wood burning stove in lounge, electric heating in other rooms. Heating for pool by arrangement, with extra charge. There is a wooden spiral staircase to 1st floor bedroom and shower room, and 3 steps from kitchen/diner down to lounge area. Teak patio furniture for 8 people. 4 loungers for sunbathing by pool and 3 large hanging parasols . Large separate gazebo if required and 4 fold-out picnic type chairs. Tennis courts 300m in village centre. Lac du Montbel with swimming/watersports/riding 15 minutes drive . Ski-ing at Mont D'Olmes 45 minutes .Other ski stations such as Ax Les Thermes, Guzet, Camurac just over an hour. Nearest restaurant 10 mins walk.Nearest small supermarket 5 minutes by car in Chalabre.

Beautiful ! Home away from home

The house is beautifully renovated. A lovely location with the mountains out the back, a car is a must almost an hour to Carcassonne and about two to the beaches.
Very clean owner very helpful offers loads of information about things to see and do.
Everything that you could have wanted was there, Kitchen very well equiped.
Ideal for younger children as not much to do in village for older children, but a great time could be had by all around the pool.
I would definately go back again.

Great house

For the last 5 years we stayed in different houses for our holidays and this one was the best. It was clean, nice renovated and had all the modern comfort we needed (except a vacuum cleaner, we really missed that one). It is also great you don't have to make the beds anymore when you arrive.
The children (4) had a great time in the swimmingpool, the garden and also in their rooms they were playing a lot. All the cathar castles (ruines) in the environement were great for them to explore.
Conclusion: it were very nice holidays for them and for us and we probably come back one of the following years!
Owner's Response: I'm glad my guests find the house well equipped, I have tried very hard to think of all the things necessary for a good holiday.
The house has all the normal cleaning equipment that should be required , brushes, dustpan, mop, bucket etc but currently no vacuum cleaner as all the floors are either wooden or tiled.
I gather the vacuum would have been useful because some of the luggage was packed in the type of bags you suck the air out of to make them compress and take up less room. I confess this had not occurred to me!

Wonderful House and Location

We really enjoyed our time at this property, the house is spotless and well equipped, the quality of furnishings and contents was very high.

The aspect of the house is wonderful, scenic views while not being totally isolated. Car is a must, the location serves as a great base to explore, moutains , lakes and historic sites are with a very short distance. Preparation and research will help you get the most from the area, many great dining and village celebrations are almost well kept secrets.

The owner was a pleasure to work with and we would gladly rent this property again when we next visit this part of France.

Very enjoyable stay

The house is in a tranquil part of France, with the Pyrenees and Cathar castles within easy reach, as well as the more soft and rolling vineyard landscapes of Aude, with Carcassonne only a fifty minute drive away.

The house itself was very clean and well-equipped, with lovely views from the living space, over green fields and towards hills, and the kitchen and bathrooms were clean and modern.

The house is on the road into Rivel, but all the services, such as shops and garages, are in the towns nearby. A car is essential, but the roads are good, and so the house provides an excellent base for exploring the area. Equally, for a family with children who just want to chill out in the sun or play in the pool, the house is great, although there may not be enough in the locality to keep teenagers happy.

We stay in private houses and villas every year for holidays, and this house was one of our favourites, assisted by the helpfulness of the owner in providing advance information and generally doing her best to help. We had a great time, and the house is recommended.
