A Place to Relax

We visited in April 2009. This is a pleasant, comfortable apartment, part of a modern building, situated off the main courtyard of a relatively modern "Weingut", in a very small, peaceful rural village. The apartment is well equipped and clean and suited our young family well. Doors from the french windows open onto a small patio and then directly onto the fields of vines, which is a lovely place to sit and sample some of the owner's wonderful wines. There is a village play area situated just a couple of streets away, which was great for the kids. The owner and his family were very welcoming and kind; "on hand", without being intrusive. We found loads to do in the area; wildlife parks, visiting towns on the "Wine route", visiting castles and walking in the Palatinate national park, which is a beautiful forest area. Walks in the park are very well marked and easy to follow. We were pleasantly surprised at what good value we received at attractions and in restaurants in the area, particularly given the state of the British pound vs the euro at present. We also found the local people to be extremely welcoming and friendly. It would be useful to know a bit of basic German although it is possible to get by without it. Because the weather was so good, we didn't need to venture too far afield, but trips to Heidelburg or Strasbourg for example would be possible from this location. We would reccomend a visit to this area and to this apartment.
