Sao Martinho Do Porto, the undiscovered jewel of Portugal: Sao Martinho do Porto is a traditional fishing village just one hours drive north of Lisbon. It has one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal on the silver coast, with its dazzling shell shaped bay. The waters are calm and its sand is white and fine. The bay was a sea port that developed due to activities related to fishing and shipbuilding. Tourist activity has given the village a very dynamic, full of life and joy attraction, especially during summer time. Entertainment is always present, enjoyed by people that choose Sao Martinho as their usual holiday destination. The village is divided into two quarters: the downtown, close to the beach and alive with the tourist activity; and the uptown with the local population and the mother church.

Sao Martinho do Porto is an ideal touring base from where to discover many attractions of the region of Leiria/Fatima and within an approx. ratio of 50km or less. It is a region steeped in heritage with many wonderful castle sand monasteries and outstanding monuments. Here you can feel the raw power of nature, whether it?s by walking to the top of the mountain of Aire and Candeeiros and admiring the natural park, its magical caves, its pedestrian paths and its fantastic Dinosaur Tracks. Climb down to the pine forest of Leiria that disappears towards the sea. Or simply walk miles and miles of glorious beaches. Discover the paths of faith that lead to Fatima, where Our Lady appeared to the three little children, on a day excursion less than 50km away, and find inner peace and tranquillity. You can also visit many of the local markets, shops, handicraft fares in the area and sample the mouthwatering gastronomic delights, all very competitively priced.
