La Alpujarra mountains are a stunning area of natural beauty not far from the Mediterranean beaches. Popular hiking and cycling routes are sign posted through olive groves and fruit orchards. An all year round destination, one of the best times to visit is in spring; at this time the wild flowers and blossoms are at their best. The traditional whitewashed villages of the region are a must-see; the prettiest of these are Pampaneira, Bubion and Trevelez. The area is loved for its friendly people and great food; many restaurants offer an inexpensive lunch menu. The Alpujarra mountains meet the Mediterranean Sea at the Costa Tropical creating a dramatic and rugged coast line; La Rabita is a popular beach resort within easy reach. Further inland is Granada city with its Alhambra palace and vibrant night life.   • WELCOME PACK
    Upon arrival you will find a basic selection of food supplies including herbs, spices, sugar, coffee, tea, cocoa, milk, oil and vinegar. You will also find washing powder. There is also a small food pack for a welcome arrival snack, comprising bread, cheese, pickle, butter, tuna and crisps and some fruit.
    A full shop at a major supermarket can be made for you if you would wish at a charge of 20€ on top of your shopping bill. Please let us know 1 week before your arrival if you would require this service.
  • The price is for the whole house, and all bills are included, including fire wood for the wood burner, gas and 24/7 internet.
    In order to reserve your holiday or if you have any questions or requirements regarding the accommodation, or would like to view more photos please feel free to contact Charles.
    Normally a deposit of 50% will be required at time of booking, and the balance will be payable four weeks before arrival. If the booking is closer than four weeks to the arrival date, then full payment will be required when booking. It is possible to pay by PayPal if required.

Notes: This traditional Spanish country house has been extensively renovated and modernized into a charming three bedroom home which can comfortably sleep up to six people. The inside accommodation is all on one level, so is suitable for elderly occupants. The outside has extensive grounds waiting to be explored with a range of fruit trees, including almonds, figs and prickly pears. Please feel free to pick them!! There is also a partially covered sun terrace, barbecue and space for parking. There is a utility room which is accessed from the outside at the front of the property. This houses the washing machine, an iron and ironing board, the garden furniture and logs for the wood burner. Las Piletas is in easy reach of local amenities, though it must be noted that car hire is essential, as it is a rural setting. Just a 10 min walk away is the quality restaurant /bar of La Turega - serving traditional Las Alpujarra fare, together with a menu during the week days between 2 and 4 pm.

Las Alpujarras: Las Alpujarra is a stunning area of natural beauty, bounded to the North by the Sierra Nevada, and to the South b y La Contraviesa mountains. Occupied for over 7 centuries by the Moors, a mixed race of Arabs and Berbers, Las Alpujarras has a unique identity. The legacy of the Moors can still be seen in the architecture of the buildings, the irrigation systems, local crafts and arts. Local cuisine has a strong Moorish influence combining fish and meat with fruit and herbs. The snows of the Sierra Nevada keep the valleys well watered all summer long. Its lush meadows, wild flowers and rare species of birds surround Las Piletas. Popular hiking and cycling routes are sign posted through olive groves and fruit orchards. Alpujarran Cuisine: Mountain air dried ham, is, naturally, the star of Alpujarran cuisine, on its own, in sandwiches, or in dishes like beans with ham. Fresh river trout, cooked is also to be watched out for, game is good, and the filling peasant dish fried breadcrumbs with garlic, onion, green pepper and tomato, is served as accompaniment to meat dishes. Excellent quality wine is produced in the Alpujarra Baja, Lower Alpujarras, particularly in Albuñol and Albondón.

Ski: The ski resorts of the Sierra Nevada can be reached within 1 ½ hours. This is Europe’s most Southerly ski resort, and has more sunny days than any other resort to prove it! Good snow from December to March make skiing here a delight, with ski runs of some 70km between 2000m and 3400m. After skiing return to Las Piletas and snuggle up around the wood burning fire! Perfect!

Golf: If you like Golf, then you really are spoilt for choice! Malaga - 2 hour drive - 45 golf courses, Almeria - 45 minutes drive - 8 golf courses, Granada - 1 hour drive - 2 golf courses, Motil - 45 minutes drive - 1 golf course

this was a great place to stay beautiful views and countryside. the facilities were excellant very new clean and well maintained. the owner was friendly and helpful. we enjoyed going for great walks in the area.We would gladly recommend and have already done so to friends.
