Southern Burgundy area, with its wide valleys, forests, vineyards and canals is attracting for many years already many 'residence secondaries'. White Charolais grazing in the folding valleys are the hallmark of this area which has become popular with artists and craftsmen from potters and glass makers to jewellers. The pace of life is slow but nearby, when a bit of buzz is required, the town of Mâcon, with its more Mediterranean feel, is close at hand. This is the administrative capital of the Saône-et-Loire department and hub of the area for shopping, entertainment and restaurants.A visit to the medieval village of Semur en Brionnais is like stepping into a film set. It stands high on the hill with its fortress, little market hall and church overlooking the stunning countryside . Along the D14 is one of Burgundy’s finest châteaux in the little village of Cormatin with its sumptuous interior, formal garden and potager.

Further Details for the cottage: The garden, 2000 m², surrounded by a high hedge, but which naturally has a view of and access to the very pretty village church, contains several fruit trees. Help yourselves (if you are here at the right season!) to cherries plums peaches and pears. It also boasts a real curiosity: a “charmille“ a sort of circular bower of dense hornbeam trees with an entrance facing away from the church. The village is tiny and peaceful, featuring a local restaurant which also sells fresh bread. A small general store is open long hours in the next village at 5 kilometres. The Local Boulangerie van calls each morning in the village to provide fresh bred and croissants. For other shopping, the town of Marcigny, or in the opposite direction, Digoin with its Leclerc hypermarket are each about 15 km away. The world famous 3 Michelin star restaurant 'Les Trois Gros' in Roanne is about 30 min drive. The 'La Poste' Restaurant in Poisson is warmly recommended as 'Les Trois pigeons' in Paray le Monial.

How to get to the Cottage: Coming from Paris, (or Britain ) the new dual carriageway N79 means that almost the whole journey is now on motorways or dual carriageways until Molinet, leaving only the last 12 km on a quiet country road. Another possibility is the TGV to le Creusot or Macon, less than 90 minutes from Paris, then Luneau is one hour's drive in a rental car.For those really in a hurry, there is a small regional airport, St Yann 10 km. If you are looking for a house to buy in France, we will be happy to advise you and take you to see properties for sale in the region, as we are in the real estate business.

Beautiful and comfortable!

Review Submitted: April 23, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
The old 'presbytere' of Luneau is a true gem, set in a nice walled garden next to the church, in a village of a few houses, and in the midst of rolling countryside. Yet despite its rural location we found it handy to visit attractions both in Burgundy and Auvergne. The house is spacious and very comfortably furnished, with a well-equipped and modern kitchen. We experienced gloriously sunny April days with a bit of chill at night - but the cottage's heating system is excellent and quickly warmed the house for the night. (We turned it on for a few hours and then shut it down overnight, reviving it for an hour or so in the morning until we departed for our side trips.) The owners are pleasant and charming people who seem to have thought of everything. All in all, an excellent stay - in a house with a bit of style and elegance rather than the usual, utilitarian gite.
Owner's Response: We are very pleased that our guests can truly enjoyed the charm and the authenticity of the "presbytère". We can seee that almost the minute they arrive that they feel happy and at home in our home.

We echo the sentiments of many of the people who have stayed at the prebytère.
We have enjoyed:canoing on the Loire from Baugy,Paray le Monial, beautiful walks along the canal, both locally and at Digoin, delicious meals at Marcigny, and Poisson, outdoor swiming at Marcigny, visiting the Pal park which our four year old daughter loved, living in this spacious and old French home, eating meals outdoors in the backdrop of the local beautiful church. This a charming part of France and we will have to return when we can to do it more justice. It is rare to find a home with such charm and warmth and its position is perfect to visit the area.

We had a very relaxing week in Luneau where Le Presbetyre provided spacious and generally comfortable accomodation. The house itself has huge potential for further improvement, but comfortably sleeps 4 adults + 2 children. The garden is a real bonus with superb views of the church to enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. The area has a number of fine restaurants including La Poste at Poisson and Les Trois Pigeons in Paray le Monial. The local boulangerie van calls each morning in the village to provide fresh bread and croissants. Lovely walks along the canals and the Loire are close at hand and just an hour away are all the benefits of Burgundy's real wine growing area. Visitors should make sure that they taste the local Charollais beef - delicious!

Due deerhounds in Borgogna

Review Submitted: June 2, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
