Notes: The house is 4 years old with contemporary styling. The kitchen is very well equipped with a large american fridge and all mod cons. There is a separate utility room for laundry etc. The dining room is bright with french doors opening to the sea views and adjoins the kitchen. Cooking is a pleasure in this kitchen - make sure to visit the Fisherman's Co-op at Castletownbere for the best of fish and sea foods - feel free to use our cookbooks and recipes with our compliments. There is a very comfortable lounge area with good seating including chaise longue for taking it easy. The sitting room has a vaulted ceiling and open fire, TV and DVD player. There are a selection of board games and books in the house for your entertainment. Apart from in the kitchen and bathrooms there are hardwood floors and doors throughout the ground floor with under floor heating . Pine floors upstairs with well fitted out bedrooms - all furniture is new - the house was purchased by our family during 2008.

Further details for this holiday house rental in County Cork, Ireland

EATING OUT ETC : There are a couple of good restaurants in Castletownbere - The Olde Bakery and Cottage Heights serving a selection of fresh local fish but with a varied menu. A bit further away in Glengarriff there are several restaurants ranging from fine dining to casual bar food. Kenmare is famous for it's gastronomic delights and is teeming with superb restaurants. LOCAL LIFE: Although it is a small town, Castletownbere is the largest white fish port in Ireland and is a bustling working town. In 2008 the movie 'Ondine', directed by Neil Jordan and starring Colin Farrell, was shot on location around the town and peninsula which caused a stir. There are several pubs in the town the most visited of which is MacCarthy's Bar made famous by the English man, Pete MacCarthy who resolved never to pass a pub that had his surname over its door and wrote a very amusing book to record his experiences as he travelled around Ireland.

GOLFING: There are three golf course's in the immediate area ( caveat - the author is not herself a golfer ! ) . There is Bantry Bay Golf Club which is open to visitors and is a Christy O'Connor Junior designed course and I am told there are stunning views across the bay at many of the holes. There is another golf course at Glengarriff which is a 9 hole park land course with terrific views across Glengarrif Harbour. The Club President is none other than the former film actress Maureen O'Hara who lives locally. There is a links course in Castletownbere itself and at least 2 other courses within 20 km of Glengarriff. Enjoy your golf!

CAPACITY : : Although 'Domhain Eile' is advertised as a house for 8 people there is capacity for up to 10 persons so the house could suit two families. There is an extra table in the Lounge area which will seat 4 persons and the dining room table will seat 8. There is comfy seating throughout the house to include an example of the 'Beara Chair' and footstool which can be used outside if the weather permits. This is a great house for children - they will love exploring it and will have lots of room to play. INTERNET ACCESS: Please note that wireless broadband works well for me on my laptop in the house - but we do not have a fixed internet connection in the house - it is wireless only.

Other Activities: Kayaking, snorkelling, traditional music, socialising, archaelogical and historical sites, shopping, beach combing, craft shops, gourmet dining.

Irish people met are very friendly, thanks Laura ! The ways are beautifull and flowerish, very clean. The house is very spacious, cosy and more than well fitted out ! But a car is needed.
We liked visiting Kenmare, and passing time at Twomey's ivy bar for an irish set dancing !
We absolutely recommand this location !

A great stay in Ireland

Philippe & Roseline Valence, FRANCE
Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
It was our first journey in Ireland. First of all, we were very well welcomed by the correspondent of the owner of the house. She was at our disposal and in our listening during all the stay. « Domhain Eile » is recent, very well equiped and in excellent state, and corresponds perfectly to the supplied description. It benefits from a magnificent sight on Bantry Bay and Bere Island. Its situation allows to make magnificent walks without needing to take its car. The town of Castletownbere, very pleasant, is in 5 minutes by car and there is all that you can wish: restaurants, pubs, night club, supermarket, pharmacy... We have children, and teenagers among them, and they really enjoyed their stay.
In conclusion, a great stay, in a fabulous region, and in a very comfortable and welcoming house.

Review Submitted: May 3, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
The house was beautiful.Exactly as pictured. There were 6 of us, 2 adults and 4 children and more then enough room. The views were incredible. The house was immaculate with beautiful furnishings and everything you needed. The caretaker that met with us did everything to make sure we had all we needed and answered any questions while we were there..The town was adorable and had all we needed. restaurants, groceries and internet cafe that my 16 year old visited frequently. The people in town were all friendly and it was a perfect visit. Would stay here again when we visit Ireland again. loved it.
Highly recomend this home.

Our experience of Beara and this house

Wicklow family Wicklow
Review Submitted: January 17, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
We holidayed in Beara last summer. It was a terrific place -two of my sons were booked in for sailing lessons at West Cork Sailing Centre in Ardrigole which left the rest of us free to relax and enjoy this lovely house when we were not out sight-seeing , shopping or walking. The house is very comfortable and bright. We particularly liked the chaise longue in the lounge area - great for reading but beside the window too . Also the boys got a kick out of the shower in the master ensuite with all it's jets. Thank you so much to the owners for everything you have put in place - we were very impressed with the quality of the furniture - everything seemed pretty new . We hope to stay there again and are glad to recommend it.
