Things to do in the area: Within twenty minutes drive: St Sauveur le Vicomte's medievel castle; Portbail's old port, sandy beach and restaurants; the fashionable seaside resort of Carteret; elegant 'Versaille of Normandy' city of Valognes with its l8th century town houses and cider museum. Within fourty minutes drive: Normandy Landing beaches with St Mere Eglise' famous church and museum; ; Cherbourg new Cite de la Mere sealife centre; the quaint old sailing ports of Barfleur and St Vaast la Hougue with its world music festival. Within an hour's drive: Bayeux's famous medieval tapestry, cathedral & wide range of shops; the gracious city of Countenances with its cathedral and summer international jazz festival; cosmopolitan city of Granville and its Dior museum. From Granville and Carteret ferries go to the Channel Islands. Within one and a half hour's drive: Le Mont St Michel.

Natural scenery.: The Manche coastline has more than 100k of sandy beaches - ideal for all watersports - whilst its northwest coast includes rocky coves and spectacular wild cliffs capes. These offer great opportunities for family outings, cycling and walking. To the south there are extensive areas of marshland with fascinating wildlife which can be explored by boat. Walking is easy in the surrounding meadows and farmland and as well as amongst the wildlife in the neighbouring ancient forest of St Sauveur le Vicomte where older children can enjoy the new tree-top adventure course.

Eating locally: Typical foods for the area include locally-sourced shellfish; crabs, oysters and mussels, alongside delicious lamb reared on the salt marshes. These can be found plentifully within fifteen minutes drive at the many local restaurants and open-air markets.
