The spectacular Manche coastline has miles of unspoiled, safe sandy beaches - ideal for swimming, wind-surfing, sand-yachting, sailing and even beach horse-riding. Walkers and cyclist are attracted to the quiet countryside - to the extensive areas of sand-dunes, the excitement of the craggy limestone cliffs and coves of the north west of the peninsular and to the wild-life in the extensive marshlands to the south. The channel Islands are easily accessible and within quarter of an hour's drive you can enjoy Portbail's old port, beach market, & restaurants. Nearby are the smart seaside resort of Carteret, Valognes' elegant l8th century town houses and cider museum, whilst within forty minutes drive you can visit the celebrated St Mere Eglise' D Day landing memorial museum. Cherbourg has recently opened the Cite de la Mere sealife centre. Music lovers can visit St Vaast la Hougue's summer world music festival or Coutances to the south which has an international jazz festival.
