Photos and Description of this Puy-de-Dome holiday house Totally refurbished with floors, doors & stairs in solid oak

The house is in the historic centre of Murat-Le-Quaire a beautiful and very old village. The house is arranged on three floors and has been completely refurbished thoughout with solid oak floors, staircase and doors. The very sunny front garden is enclosed to keep young children or dogs in. On the ground floor is a large kitchen dining room with a wood burning stove and a large dining table that comfortably seats up to 14 people. (there are beds for 13 people (as 4 doubles & 5 singles or 2 doubles and 9 singles) but one additional camp bed is available). The house is just 10 minutes from the local ski resort, Le Mont Dore and only five minutes from La Bourboule which is a very popular summer resort with lots of restaurants, shops, supermarkets etc. The house is also less than 10 minutes drive from the recently completed A89 autoroute which makes it an easy drive from the channel ports, from Limoge airport (flybmi, Ryanair) or from Clermont Ferrand if you prefer to take the train.

In the winter sledging, cross country skiing, snow shoeing and dog-sledding are all available in Murat le Quaire. Nearby Le Mont Dore also offers ice-skating & ten pin bowling. In the summer there is a plan d'Eau swimming and fishing lake just a short walk from the house + three large lakes nearby. The walking, mountain biking & road cycling in the area are all superb. There is also a golf course & a brilliant high ropes course in Le Mont Dore. La Bourboule has a large park with amazing playgrounds, crazy golf, train rides etc for children. Restaurants: The local restaurant, Le Relais de la Toinette, just 50 metres from the house is excellent & great value for money. The other must visit restaurant is the Auberge du Vergne Noir. It's a 10 minute walk from the house along a footpath - sometimes through the snow. La Bourboule (2 km away) has around 20 restaurants, bars & even a casino.

About the Skiing: A review on mountainpassions.com recently described the ski area,'While the Auvergne may lack the sheer gravitas of the French Alps, it offers one unique attraction: the chance to ski down the flanks of an extinct volcano in the startling landscapes of the Parc Régional des Volcans.' Yes the landscapes are stunning & the skiing is quite extensive (85km in total) with two linked resorts: Le Mont Dore on the north facing slopes and Superbesse over on the sunnier side of the mountain. There's also a small resort at nearby Chastreix which is well worth a day visit.

Golf course: It's a very French resort with just enough english speaking ESF instructors to go round. The skiing is suitable for all levels of skier including some very challenging off-piste when the conditions are right. The website http://pistehors.com rates the area as offering some of the best off-piste in France. The other big attraction are the prices! A six day high season adult ski pass costs just 125 euros.

Golf: There is an excellent 9 hole golf course close to Le Mont Dore and about 15 minutes drive from the house. It's at 1100m so is closed from 15th November to 2nd April due to the snow.

Ski: The house is a pleasant 10 minute drive from the ski resort of Le Mont Dore. Here you'll find surprisingly extensive skiing totalling 85km with two linked resorts. Le Mont Dore on the north side of the mountain has lots to offer all levels of skier including some very challenging off-piste. Superbesse on the sunnier side of the mountain has wider pistes and has more the feel of the big alpine resorts albeit on a smaller scale. Both resorts are extremly child and family friendly with ESF ski schools.
