Water Sports:
Bol is one of Croatia's leading water sports centre and Harbour House is close to the main water sports centre in Bol.
Here, you can swim, snorkle, windsurf, walk, climb, jetski, fish, scuba dive, kite surfing, play tennis, cycle and ride on the banana boat that appears at Zlatni Rat in the summer. If you wish you can even take a flight in one of the little Cesna planes that fly from Brac Airport.
Although Bol is still a fishing village [the fishermen go out to sea in their little boats at 5.30 am] it has mooring facilities for yachts, so there is always a very cosmopolitan mixture of people in the village.
Beach Life:
Bol is blessed with wonderful beaches, including the world famous Golden Horn Beach [Zlatni Rat]
which is a long spit of fine shale extending out into the sea. You can either walk there [1 km] or take a boat from Bol Harbour. For children, there is a little road train that chugs along from time to time. Along its spine are ancient pine trees to which you can retreat in the heat of the day to eat a tasty meal under the trees. The restaurant is reasonably priced and is open all day long.
Bol Beach is only 30 metres from Harbour House so if you are inclined you can take an early morning dip before
your breakfast croissants, from the local bakery.
A truly lovely beach is the Monastery Beach. This is a five minute stroll along the Coastal Path [opposite direction to Zlatni Rat]. With its beautiful setting and fine little restaurant that is built into an old fisherman's house. Here you can swim, eat lovely food and have coffee brought to you at little tables under the trees.
Culture in Bol:
The Dominican Monastery has a number of fine works of art including a Tintoretto painting.
Bol, itself, has a fine museum of sculpture which is well worth a visit.
During the summer there are many picturesque little religious festivals where small children with flowers in their hair parade around the village accompanied by priests and choristers. There are also capella singers singing local folk songs.
The end of summer festival is a bonus. The local restaurants open stalls in the village with local food and a giant paella in a 2 metre wide pan.
SHOPPING
Around the harbour are numerous little shops, restaurants and bars. Here you can buy the latest swimwear, beach wraps, designer tee-shirts and jewellery, and then parade around the harbour wearing ithem in the evening!
At the local seafront cocktail bar you can sample wonderful cocktails [gin slings, rum punch, etc] whilst reclining on sofas underneat straw rotundas.
