Photos and Description of this Sarlat holiday bungalow 3 bedroom bungalow in a small hamlet in the heart of the Dordogne countryside

“Petit Reve” is situated in the peaceful hamlet of Braulen Haut with splendid views of the surrounding Dordogne countryside. It is just 10 minutes drive from Sarlat, which is regarded as the tourist capital of the Perigord Noir, and within easy reach of the many attractions in the area. Guests say the spacious covered patio and pool, right next to the house, are key strengths of this property. Whether relaxing with a good book, sunbathing, dining ‘al fresco’ or having fun in the pool (particularly the children), you have the perfect facilities you need for an enjoyable holiday. Indoors, the rooms are modern and light. The lounge has plenty of space for relaxing and dining, as well as a TV that receives the range of English channels on Freeview, and a DVD player. The three double bedrooms ensure that sleeping arrangements are kept away from the rest of the house. It’s modern living in a beautiful rural setting!

“Petit Reve” is located just out of earshot of the road between Sarlat (10km) and Souillac (20km), which makes for easy access to the many places to visit in the area. Sarlat will be your abiding memory of this holiday. It has more historic buildings per square mile than any other town in Europe and an abundance of restaurants, cafes and bars. Far too many day trips to mention them all, but canoeing (for softies) on the Dordogne is popular, there is an outdoor pursuits center 5 minutes from the house, more chateaux than you can shake a stick at, and a country market in one town/village or another on almost every day of the week. Musts – Saturday market in Sarlat; Lascaux Caves (30 mins); Domme (30 mins) market on Thursday and viewpoint over the Dordogne valley; Rocamadour (1 hour) a medieval town perched high on a rocky outcrop, is the most visited site in France after Versailles.

The south-facing aspect of the house has a spacious covered patio. This is next to the large 10mx5m swimming pool which, with its roman steps, is ideal for young children. The outdoor area provides perfect facilities for a relaxing holiday, where you can cool off, snooze or read your book in privacy. The kitchen window looks out over farmland and woods, with glimpses of typically-Perigordian houses and farms. It is suitably equipped with fitted units, a cooker and fridge (washer, tumble-dryer and freezer in the garage), with ample space for cooking and occasional dining. A small room next to the kitchen acts as your larder, drinks-cooling room (small fridge) and a place to keep the loungers.

A great place to relax

mr Who Utrecht, The Netherlands
Review Submitted: November 5, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
The bungalow was delightful and simple,
just what we needed to help us relax.

The side road is quiet and there is almost no traffic.
From the road you can look directly on the terrace, so you have no privacy on the terrace. It's a pitty there are no trees or bushes in the garden to ensure more privacy.

The pool is fantastic and so are the views from the terrace.

The rooms were clean, and provided the necessary facilities. The kitchen is spacious, the fridge is not big, but you can cool your drinks in a little fridge in the store.

George is a very good host and as he knows the dordogne very well he can give you some usefull suggestions for nice day trips (Sarlat, the evening market at Domme, the castles, Beynac)

We will most certainly make use of the facility again.

The beautiful Dordogne

We had a very enjoyable holiday at Petit Reve, George met us on arrival and showed us round. He had provided a very welcome fruit bowl as well as enough provisions to last us over the weekend which we much appreciated, so we did not have to rush off to the supermarket as soon as we arrived. The house is in a lovely location, well away from any traffic noise and is well situated for visiting the various tourist spots and we loved the market in Sarlat. The swimming pool was very welcome for cooling down and the grandchildren didn't want to come out! The house was comfortably furnished, clean and well equipped, our only concern were the number of flies outside in August which meant we had to eat inside. The swimming pool is not fenced off so difficult with very young children.

Petit Reve July 2009

Review Submitted: July 25, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay at Petit Reve in July 2009 and would happily return to it in the future. The house was lovely, very comfortable and very clean. The shaded patio was excellent for sitting out and eating out in the warm weather and the pool was thoroughly enjoyed by all. We also made use of the 2 bicycles which were provided.

As others have said, the house is situated in a quiet hamlet close to Sarlat - 7 mins to the nearest supermarket 12-15 mins to the centre of Sarlat. The Dordogne river is within easy reach and, though slightly further away, we had a straightforward drive to Rocamadour one day. There are also 2 adventure parks close by, though we didn't have time to try these out.

We very much appreciated the owner's hospitality and welcome. We have rented houses in France on and off for over 20 years and have never had such a substantial pack of provisions provided for us on arrival - it really was very welcome after the long drive down.

We would highly recommend this property.

A real home from home. We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay here in August 2008. The bungalow/villa is very well presented and we were very grateful of the welcome pack on arrival.
We particularly liked the generously sized swimming pool and welcomed the shaded patio area where you can escape from the sun!
A lovely quiet rural location yet only a short drive from the Dordogne river and the beautiful medieval town of Sarlat. An ideal location for exploring the south eastern Dordogne region and beyond. Thoroughly recommended!

Very quiet peaceful rural location, private, situated in lovely countryside surrounded by farmland.
The property was spotlessly clean and spacious and had everything required for a perfect relaxing holiday,
Though the property is in a rural setting it is still only a few minutes drive from Sarlat,Supermarkets, ect.
We will certainly be back!!!
