Activities:
Our nearest village of Allaire has a children's play area with picnic tables and a small fishing lake. If you like fishing, as well as the lake in Allaire, you can river fish in stunning surroundings10 minutes away at the Ile de Pies at Saint Vincent sur Oust. Permits can be bought from local Tabacs and cafes.
Canoes and Kayaks can also be hired by the hour, half day or day at the Ile de Pies but if you prefer not to be on the water you can hire bicycles to ride along the riverbank.
There is a nine hole golf course 15 minutes away at Malansac or to go more upmarket try the beautiful course of La Bretesche at Missillac set beside a stunning chateau. Further afield is the Lac au Duc where there is a golf course and an artificial beach by the lakeside.
At La Gacilly and also at Redon, boats can be hired to cruise down the river and discover the hidden beauty of the area. These river launches can be hired by the hour, half day or full day.
Pretty Villages Nearby:
We are within easy reach of several beautiful villages. Rochefort en Terre (20 minutes) has a splendid display of flowers in the summer, cobbled streets and an array of interesting shops and galleries alongside numerous creperies and restaurants. It also has a lake nearby where there are wooded picnic areas, pedaloes and swimming. La Roche Bernard(30 minutes) is a very pretty village overlooking the River Vilaine and you can sit and have a drink beside the picturesque port, or wander down the narrow streets reminiscent of a Cornish fishing village. Malestroit (30 minutes) is a pretty medieval village on the Nantes Brest Canal and has many festivals and free outdoor live music during the summer evenings. La Gacilly (20 minutes) is the home of Yves Rocher cosmetics and perfume, and you can take a tour around his Vegetarium and Botanical Gardens which have over 1000 species of plants and flowers. You can also discover the talents of local artisans in workshops along the flowered streets.
Beaches/Swimming:
The small seaside town of Damgan is 35 minutes away and its gently sloping beaches are perfect for families.The village centre with its restaurants and ice cream parlours is a stroll from the main beach. There is also a childrens play area. Quieter beaches are close to the main beach, a stroll along the sand.
If you want to go more upmarket take a trip to the fashionable seaside resort of La Baule, about an hour away. It has a fantastic sandy beach and lovely restaurants on and around the main street where you will find stylish shops and boutiques.
Redon has a public swimming baths with a babies/toddler pool and two further pools inside and a toboggan type slide. It has an open air pool in the summer months, as does La Gacilly. There is a campsite at nearby Peillac which has a pool open to the public in July and August.
