Further details for this holiday cottage rental in South Yorkshire, United Kingdom

Storrs: A sleepy little Hamlet with just a scattering of farm buildings and character properties. The nearest convenience store is just a few miles driving distance. The co-op and the Spar are located on Stannington Road in Stannington. From Throstle Nest, drive up the hill then left onto lea moor Lane, Left at the end of the road then continue along High Riggs Road for approximately 1 mile and you will come to the shops. There is also a post office, newsagents, general store, hairdressers, chip shop and a Chinese take away. There is also further shops located in crosspool (off Manchester Road) where you will find an excellent Chinese takeaway (Dynasty-see menu) and there is also a superb Italian restaurant called Papa Chico’s (take your own alcohol) or for a la carte a visit to Artisan is a must. There is also a seafood restaurant above called Catch. Should you wish to visit a larger supermarket you can find both Morrison’s and Tesco’s in Hillsborough.

FISHING:: Just a short walk down the lane from Throstle Nest you will find Loxley Fishery. This fishery in the summer has got to be one of the most scenic places .Alternatively if you don’t wish to carry all your fishing tackle you can access the fishery by car, as you travel from Throstle Nest It is situated left at the end of Rowell Lane onto Loxley Road turn left down Storrs Bridge Lane, Loxley Valley. It is situated before Dam Flask reservoir. Loxley is triangular in shape, about 120mtr’s each side, and is fed by the river Loxley in one corner, (this is one of the few ponds where Barbell actually breed) each bank has a background of fully mature alder trees with a few Birch and sycamore trees mixed in, this venue is very well kept, and a number of pegs are suitable for Disabled anglers, The rules are very visible on a well organised notice board, The water is about 4ft deep and has a number of Lilly pads which when in flower photographers home in on every year.

PUBLIC HOUSES: A visit to Low & High Bradfield is a must as besides 2 nice friendly local pubs The Plough and The Old Horns you will have chance to watch a game of cricket (weather and season permitted), feed the ducks or visit the small village post office for tea and scones. Both the Plough and The Old Horns offer a good bar meal or alternatively both have a restaurant attached for more formal dining. The Admiral Rodney is situated on Loxley Road just a few minutes drive away which also offers a wide variety of “pub food” and I can recommend the Sunday dinners! If you wish to drive a little further why not try The Strines Inn. The Strines Inn is a very special place. It's a Public House adorned with history. It's location, off the beaten track, yet a popular 'watering hole' for those that have been privileged to find. It's not a secret, but to every individual, it feels like their own 'secret' hideaway, where simply friends meet who you may not have met before!

anniversary

Review Submitted: March 10, 2009 Date of Stay: January 2009
Had the most fantastic 1st anniversary at this cottage.

The cottage is well set out and is in a lovely "away from it" setting. The views from the bath are so lovely we never wanted to get out of it !

The kitchen had all we required for our short break and was spotlessly clean
There was plenty of cooking equipment if you did want to cook although we enjoyed the local pub food !

The bedroom was so lovely and was a good size. There was sufficient hanging space in the wardrobe and the bed was a very large and comfortable.

The bathroom had everything you required, plenty of towels and a fabulous shower cubicle .

We loved the open fire and the owner had left us a good supply of coal although the cottage was that warm we only lit it once.

To sum up this cottage was an excellent choice for our romantic break and there was nothing I would have changed.

The owners are lovely and the fresh eggs were gorgeous
Owner's Response: So nice to hear you enjoyed yourselves, hope to see you on your 2nd anniversary and many more.

Regards

Walking Holiday

Review Submitted: June 13, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We had a lovely week at the cottage. It was very cosy well equiped and spottlessly clean. The bathroom was lovely free standing bath and excellent cubical shower with music. The bedroom had a 6 ft bed, very comfortable with wardrobe and draw space. The kitchen was fully equiped except for a microwave.
We had lovely evenings snuggled up with a real coal fire.
This cottage was a good choice for us as it is in a walkers paradise.
Not to be missed the local farm shop (steaks and ice cream) and the pub called the Plough.
Fresh eggs still warm from the hens (wow). We will be back to Throstle Nest.
The owners Kaye and Terry were very nice people and could not do enough for us.

Weekend break

ninalogan Wolverley, Worcs
Review Submitted: February 17, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
We booked the cottage last minute for the Valentines weekend for 3 nights.

The location was really beautiful and the views from the back door are lovely - it's in a really quiet spot. The cottage is really small, but it feels snug for a couple. There is a fantastic open fire (you WILL need to light this) - bring your own firelighters/logs/coal (there was some on arrival but not enough for our 3 days).

The kitchen is very basic and not very well equipped. Take your own EVERYTHING (even toilet rolls, salt, etc)! There's no microwave or toaster - surprising.

The bedroom - yes it's a very large "looking" bed, but it is 2 singles pushed together. Again, it's sparcely decorated - i missed a bedside cabinet and a chest of drawers. The room is a really lovely size though and has a nice feeling. The stairs are VERY steep and each step is high - take care.

The bathroom was what sold us on the cottage. However, the shower didn't work and there wasn't one time in 3 days when there was enough hot water for a decent bath. We could only managed about 4 inches before it started running cold. Really, really dissapointing.

The heating came on in the morning and evening. We arrived with thick smow on the ground and i was surprised that the heating wasn't left on for the guests. Shame.

Overall, we did have a lovely time, but the problem with the water and heating spoiled it somewhat. We just wanted a lovely romantic time being holed up away from it all for a couple of days - i really didn't want to have to think about hot water to wash up or feeling cold.

Kaye and Terry were very, very nice.
Owner's Response: The cottage is a good sized 1 bedroom cottage with ample room for a extremely comfortable, enjoyable holiday.

The kitchen is well equiped with everything we feel you require. There is an Integrated oven with grill for toasting and an electric hob, integrated washer dryer and integrated fridge.

Throstle nest cottage is a self catering holiday therefore you will have on your arrival an starter supply of toilet rolls, washing up liquid, kitchen cleaner, dishcloth and washing tablets. You will need to bring additional supplys for the rest of your holiday.

The heating to the cottage is well above average as the central heating is on for approximately 12 hours a day. There is also 2 additional electric heaters should you require further warmth. There is a fantastic range/open fire for those romantic nights. This is supplied with a starter supply of coal or logs but you may need to purchase further if you run out.

The bedroom is a fantastic size and has a superb King Sized bed which is a specialised "zip and link" bed therefore it can be split into 2 single beds if you prefer. In the bedroom there is a bed side cabinet with 3 drawers and a double wardrobe that also has drawer space below.

In the unfortunate circumstances that something goes wrong with the property whilst you are here please feel free to let me know of ANY problems. If I am not made aware of problems I cannot rectify them. We are in the fortunate position that we live close to the cottage therefore it gives our guests peace of mind should you require any assistance or some advice on day trips out etc.

We endevour to make our guests stay as enjoyable as possible and take pride in our accomodations.

We hope to see you at Throstle Nest
