Built in1800, La Forge provided all items of a metal nature to the village of Payrac. Today it is an ideal living space of high quality for one person or a couple seeking modern comforts combined with traditional character. Original stonework is present both inside and out. The exterior wrought iron balcony, literally a work of art, was made there.Completely renovated in 2007, the transformation from forge to dwelling is remarkable. The tastefully decorated kitchen, dining and living area downstairs, the cozy bedroom and bathroom with a large walk-in shower upstairs, will make your holiday stay a comfortable and memorable one.

Downstairs: the living/kitchen/dining area occupy the same space with oak beams, stone walls, terra cotta tiles, oak flooring, a wrought iron table with marble top, chairs and a lovely oak staircase leading to the bedroom and ensuite bathroom. There is a pellet stove for heating during cooler months. The artistically decorated kitchen is fully equipped and functional with plenty of cupboard/counter space and good lighting. Upstairs: Original beams, artistic stone walls and oak floors create a cozy ambiance full of natural light. There is a double bed with high quality linens, vanity with large mirror, TV, radio/CD player,and ceiling fan, There is good lighting for reading and a French door leading to a small, wrought iron balcony, which provides a lovely view of the village and some spectacular sunsets. The bathroom is tiled throughout and has a toilet, sink, shelves for towels and personal items, a heated towel rack and a very large walk-in shower

The Dordogne region of France is known as the capital of pre-history and has a deserved reputation as one of Europe's most beautiful river valleys. The rivers are unspoiled and unpolluted. Everywhere you look there are great castles, fortified towns and villages, churches, farmhouses and forts built into cliffs. Whatever your interests the Lot will suit you. You'll never run out of things to do. If pre-history doesn't grab you, perhaps the 100 Years War will. The cliffs overhanging the rivers are lines with impressive castles dating from the 10th to 12th century. Canoeing, kayaking, hiking and cycling are popular sports. One of the best activities is eating and drinking. It's hard to find a bad meal. The region as earned the honor of gastronomic capital of France. A really nice relaxing adventure is to rent a canoe and glide down the Dordogne River admiring the castles above you, and then stopping on the riverbank for a picnic surrounded by nature at it's best.

  • A 20% deposit is required when making a booking. The balance is due 30 days prior to the arrival date. If booking for more than one week a 10% discount is given on the second week. If renting for longer than one week, the balance is due 60 days prior to the arrival date. A 150 euro cash security deposit is collected at check-in (Saturday 4 PM) to cover loss/damage or unreasonable cleaning. It will be returned in full at check-out (Saturday 10 AM) if all conditions have been met. The property is to be returned in the condition it was received. Cleaning service is available upon request for 50€.

Payrac: Payrac is a lovely, well preserved village community of about 550 inhabitants. It is the perfect location for those who want to experience the French countryside and travel to the heart of the best kept secret in southwest France. To discover France is to fall hopelessly in love with a small village, it's labyrinth of streets and Romanesque church. It is to be inspired by images which provide tangible proof that despite encroaching progress, nothing has really changed. Payrac is one of those villages. It is a comfortable base for exploring historic, rural France. Payrac has a well-stocked supermarket, a weekly farmers market during the summer months, a boulangerie, pharmacy, physician, gas station/garage, restaurants, post office, public swimming pool, tennis courts, beauty salon and a great tourist office all within walking distance from La Forge. The simplicity of village life has a timeless quality to it. Everyone should experience it at least once.
